Remember him.......?

Was watching a few Youtube clips of Blues the other night from the mid 90's and come across the one and only goal he scored at Tranmere in the League Cup.

I wasn't there that night, and although I had a season ticket around that time, I cannot remember anything about him?

What a goalscoring record, albeit mostly in Norway.

My memories of the bloke was that he was built like a brick outhouse.

Surprised he only played a handful of games, would have thought more

Ah, Barry Fry!

My commute into work in those days was along Warwick Road, through Greet. Right opposite the school (my first school as it happens) there's still a corrugated building which is a church.

One day, there was a poster outside declaring "Jesus Saves!"

By the next day, someone had sprayed "Barry Fry will buy him."

There was a huge amount of hype for him. Came on for a half-time interview. After the Orient game, someone (Tom Ross?) asked if Esteves would be in the League game, and Fry said "naaah, 'e's pissed off, mate."

Some of the others i remember us signing were:

Lyndon Hooper
Steve McGavin
Paul Barnes
Roger Willis
Dave Regis
Miguel De Souza
Neil Doherty

None done anything of note for us. Gary Bull was another, i thought he'd be really good for us he scored a few and then buggered off. Did his loan expire i cant remember?

Gary Bull and Paul Barnes both had really good goalscoring records at Barnet and I think York, so I thought they would be decent for us. But they were both pish.

I remember Doherty scoring at Barnsley away when we won 4 or 5-0 I think, that's all the contribution I think he made.

Desouza and Regis were also awful. Harry Willis wasn't to bad thumbs up

It was a diving header at Tranmere.

That game should actually have finished 1-0 because Aldridge deliberately put Tranmere's equaliser in with his hand. I was sat with the Tranmere fans and dead level with it. The Tranmere lads were pissing themselves laughing about Aldridge getting away with it.

Barnes had a good little run of goals at the end of that one season, but then Francis took over and decided he didn't want him so he was moved out.

Barnes also scored that infamous goal against us for Stoke when the riot kicked off.

I seem to remember Gary Bull came on loan, and good old Baz wanted to sign him. But there was little chemistry between him and Cladger or Steve McGavin. At that point, I think Porn Dwarf had had enough of Bazza's random signings and told him a big fat "NO".

Ken Charlery was another poor attempt at buying a successful striker in the bottom division, and expecting him to set our league alight but him falling flat on his face.

All I remember about Ken Charlery was him being good(ish) at Peterboro who would then sell him. Mysteriously after that his form would fall apart and then Peterboro would buy him back for a lot less then they sold him for at which point Mr. Celery's form would pick up again...and then 'Boro would sell him again! I can only assume that he was on a cut of any transfer fee.

Also, I was there when Rushfeldt made his debut at Port Vale. Big lad and the first time the ball came to him he stood on it and fell over. If somebody had told me then he would score a hat-trick in the Champion's League I would have nervously backed away from them.

Edit: Paul Barnes was possibly the slowest player I have ever seen but I have no idea why Gary Bull was never given a real chance as every time I saw him play he score a goal. He didn't do much else, but who cared. Another one bombed out.
