Is it okay to be a little bit scared?

Bob Latchford
11:18, Thursday 15 June 2017
Big money being splashed around over the next couple of months.
Interest in signing John Terry.
'Arry telling the board he needs a number of new signings.
Long term planning being booted out in favour of chucking the sink at going up this season

Is it okay to be a bit scared about what happens if we don't go up, given our recent history of financial armageddon, 5k a week pay caps, not being able to afford transfer fees etc, and our current managers past record of leaving clubs in unfavourable circumstances?

No, I wanted excitement & I'm getting it.

Blues have been shit before & inevitably will be again at some point anyway.

You can have that worry at the back of your mind, but as ever, nothing we do will make any difference. Just go with it and hope for the best.

No, absolutely right to be sceptical.

But, if we breach FFP I doubt it would be financial armageddon, it certainly wouldn't be worse than our chairman getting locked up for money laundering and having his assets frozen.

You can be as scared as you like.

But keep your doom and gloom for your twitter account, please.

Let's see who we end up with I would say.

If we end up with a load of old players on massive money then that might be worrying in an "all your eggs in one basket" kind of way.

But if we get one or two of that type in to give us nous and leadership, plus two or three longer term value signings, then sod it. Let's get excited.

Under Redknapp it's inevitable that we will be linked with all and sundry but so far we have signed an excellent keeper on a Bosman and are strongly linked with Terry which would be a real marquee signing.

I'll only judge it on who we actually sign.

Supporting Blues is like setting your hair on fire just before sitting in a roller-coaster with an open bottle of whiskey. Chaos is half the fun and better to have a complete sense of unknown excitement than to be 'trying to get to 40 points' in the 'best league in the world'.

Who knows how the Harry experiment will end; who cares! Just sing the songs and have a laugh, its just a game.

No at all OK Bob. We're Blues FFS.

We spend most of our time in adversity rather than triumph. We have to enjoy our rare moments in the sun as thus far (over our 142 year history) they don't last very long and the next kick in the nads will be along all too soon!

Stockdale is a brilliant signing
Terry as a proper Blue would be astonishing
Signing an experienced prem/championship goal poacher and an influential midfield general would be jizztastic.
If the owner is prepared to invest in them nobody will argue ....
But that guarantees naff all.....and if we subsequently missed out on promotion we'd then be on potentially dangerous ground.

I'd be just happy for us to build a younger, hungrier Blue Machine.

Hypothetically ....

3 mercenaries even on frees could cost 7.5 mill in wages (50k per week)
6 promising youngsters even with fees on average of £750,000 and on roughly 8k per week each = 7.5 mill total

Take your pick !!

Gonna enjoy the ride - which ever

Season tickets sorted for the first time in 5 or 6 years.
Some poor fekkers in the Kop are gonna get re-educated in How The Beautiful Game should be played next season - what a treat they've got in store :P. Tilton had it last year.....its only fair to spread the gospel around to other disciples round the ground.
( In other words - they'll be 'treated' to a whole load of complete bollocks as usual )
thumbs upB)

Take your points as they worry me somewhat as well.

If things do go sour, you'd have to blame the board for investing money they couldn't.

That said, Terry's been offered 90k a week + appearance fees and bonuses. Let's assume, worst case scenario, he plays every game, keep 20 cleansheets and it works out at £100k a week.

Over the season, that's £5.2m for one of the most experienced, highly decorated players in world football (arguably history).

Taking into consideration the extra season ticket sales, boost to current players in squad and the draw it brings to other targets, £5.2m is a snip.

Wouldn't you agree?

nah not scared t all.... think of it this way , you would happily pay 5mil for a top centre half, we would be paying 100k a week (5.2 mil a year)with no transfer fee. I say that is a barging for someone like JT

You don't need John Terry in the Championship you just need somebody who can get to the ball before anyone else and put it out of danger. If he was a 'ball playing' centre-back, I might be a bit more enthusiastic but decent stoppers can be bought for much less and the money used better elsewhere.
