Perhaps the 1920-21 season's a marker?

We were promoted as Champions in 1921 after picking up the equivalent of just 5 points from the first 7 games. That was a 42 game season and so the 7 games were. equivalent to 8 games now. That included 10 straight wins between the middle of October and Decembe and 14 wins in 16 games to the start of February.

Perhaps a model for 2017-18?

Trouble is it was only 2 points for a win then. Much harder now.

Just done a back of a fag packet calculation, and only once in the last ten years has a team with as few points as Blues after seven games gone on to win promotion - Hull in 2007/8 only had four points after 7. The average required at this stage is 12 points.

It looks almost as bleak for the Vile as it does for Blues - over the same period, only two clubs have got promotion with seven points after seven games - Hull in 2007/8 and Reading in 2011/12.

Looks like us and the Vile will be spending the rest of the season competing for local bragging rights, and not much else. Two bald men arguing over a comb?

Yes the omens are not good. For me there has to be criticism of the close season inactivity and getting players in too late. Even with that the team put out at Burton should have won - The fact that we lost casts real doubt on the ability of the management team in my view
