First time ive seen him do stand up on telly last night, must say if he lowered his voice even down to jumbo jet decibels he would be a very good comedian.

I did see Rhod Gilbert at Symphony Hall a few years ago. He was OK, funny but I have to say from the same stage I thought Jimmy Carr was brilliant and played the audience very well.

Same goes for all sorts. I can’t sit through an episode of Mrs Brown’s Boys, but some people love it. Each to their own.

His podcasts while away half an hour, usually quite a few laughs.

I wouldn't put Carr in with that pair. Carr is very quick witted and very smart. I can se why people don't like him; he can come across a being smarmy.

The other two are just fannys.
Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless. I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you're one of those, my advice to you is leave well alone. Good luck.

Carr is undoubtedly quick witted and intelligent. Intelligent enough to have bought his way in to comedy and still use a team of writers for his gags and 'off-the-cuff' comebacks... At least he doesn't pretend otherwise, paid them and gave credit though, unlike some fat norther gag stealing multi-millionaire that people love to mention on every comedy thread.

Speaking of comedy, the show I recommended a while ago by Rob Kemp now has a Soho theatre run and a nice write up in the Grauniad [www.theguardian.com]

Same here, along with Bottom.

It's infectious too - as I go through life, the people I become close to end up catching my love of The Young Ones & Bottom, along with Monty Python and Not The Nine O'Clock News and a few others. It gets quite bizarre because there's always a catchphrase or line from an episode that pops into my head when I hear certain phrases in life and this list grows as time goes on. The other people I mix with who like the same stuff have sometimes different and often the same keywords which trigger them to start reciting comic lines as well, usually in their head but sometimes out loud in the right company, but at the least they tend to lead to stifled laughter which can be a bit difficult to explain in certain circumstances.

I know that this is the case for many other people I have met and I'm sure it's the same for a few people on this forum. So for example in terms of the series Bottom, I cannot hear the words 'Sarah Ferguson' (from the dating agency sketch) or 'it's the gasman' (from 'gas') without hearing them said in my head in a certain manner which leads to me trying not to crack up with suppressed laughter.

Insane I know, but funny as fook as well.
