Star Soccer, 1982

Just stumbled upon this. Over 25 minutes of highlights from Star Soccer of our FA Cup tie at home to Bobby Robson’s fabulous Ipswich side from 1982. Worth watching just to hear Hugh Johns and see the likes of Coton, Langan, Dennis, Curbishley, Gemmill, Evans, Handysides and Worthington in that beautiful Adidas strip again. The ability Worthington had was worth the admission alone, especially considering how poor the pitches were. So glad I was a season ticket holder on the Kop in those days.

They were a great team. Should have been champions in 1981. Only reason an inferior side won it was that Ipswich played about 20 more games than them that season.

Yes, I think they were everybody's second team for a while, great team to watch.

What would Scotland give now for Wark, Burley, Brazil & Gemmill?

Was at this game
Nothing better than tuning into star soccer or match of the day ( very rare) to watch the highlights
a game you had actually attented. The olders ones will know what im talking about.

Being on TV is just normal now, but can rember the excitement of seeing the TV vans parked at the back of the main stand knowing you were going to be on the box!

Hugh Johns, one of the most underrated commentators ever

I'd forgotten the referee not giving the world's most nailed on penalty for that challenge on Tony Evans.

...DES will be along in a minute to say the ref was ace and I should stop moaning.

That Ipswich side was really classy though.

Spot on yeah, Brazil was a cracking player and a ruthless finisher.

Shame he's such an absolute nausea on the radio.

Great viewing. So good to see Worthington showing real skill when in tight areas, even an overhead kick in his own area! The skill level was very high generally and players being fully committed. I did wonder how that game would have panned out if today's decisions were applied? Blues would have had an early penalty with the defender sent off as last man, and in the second half another defender would have also gone when up ending Archie. It shows how the game has changed.

Yes it is. Weak character, all he wants to talk about is who he was on the piss with who is famous. Shame.
Thanks for keeping us up, Harry.

Is this the game that Cooper "threw the ball in the net"?

I was 14 at the time and on the Kop, missed the ball going in the net as I turned away when the feeble shot was hit.
Turn left when you get on a plane.
