Great photos - I'd have put a lot of them a couple of years before 1977, to be honest, but perhaps that was just Manchester being a bit late to catch up.

Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless. I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you're one of those, my advice to you is leave well alone. Good luck.

I'm with you young Tam 73 or 4 for those pics, 75 at the latest.

Incidentally did you see Rowett's response to Forest fans taking the piss out of his shoes at the weekend........Nottingham fashion will catch up in about 6 months and they will all be wearing 'em.

Nah - it is 1977 - references to 'Jubilee final' and 1976/1977 can be seen on scarves and patches on jackets.

Yes, I think some of them at least are 1977-ish - there's a kid with a mohican and no teeth which either implies 1977 or he'd escaped from somewhere. Some of the other fashion though should be from about 74-75, but I used to live in the area at about that and they still weren't comfortable with the notion of Christianity, so anything's possible.

Brownstone, Oasis market, six button waistband velvet baggies with side pockets and platforms. Impossible to jump off the moving football special while it was arriving.

Absolutely made my day looking through these. Thanks for posting (best get back to work now!)
Reminds me of when my sister suddenly decided she was now a man u fan, did herself a red devils bedsheet & went off into the Tilton with the man u fans, I was gobsmacked!

People just look more at ease & in the moment without the microscope of mobile phones, social media, selfies etc. I think people are losing their spontaneous wildness now.

Oxford Bags were still 'in' when I started senior school in '77 but the shift to straight legged trousers seemed to happen virtually overnight.

Not difficult to see why - the whole of the 1970s was a fashion wasteland: flares; clumping great high heeled 'shoes' for men, appalling hairstyles (if you can call them a 'style'), blokes wearing suits with huge kipper ties - thankfully by the time I got to senior school in the 1980s it was all narrow tiess and skinny narrow trousers.

Spot on mate, I got married in 75 the year fashion forgot, every now and again my eldest lad puts the pics up on Facebook, they cause riots of laughter all at my outfit!
It actually beggars belief! Trousers wider than the wife’s wedding dress, black & white platform shoes, bushy hair with centre parting , and gigantic lapels and huge shirt collar!

Fantastic photos. Parts of the UK still look like this. I'm thinking Teeside and some of those towns in the Clyde valley near Glasgow
I can't stomach the sound of wind chimes to this day. They sound like lies.
