I'm with you on Heller, I thought Catch 22 was garbage. Also Hubert Selby Jr, got about two chapters into Last Exit To Brooklyn and gave up. I'm not a big fan of Irvine Welsh's books either, but I do love Trainspotting the film (and even T2).

Inherent Vice by Pynchon is great, but I got to that through the film which I loved.

Thomas Hardy.

Whoever said Tolkein was wrong - as was the person who said Orwell.

I’m halfway through Sleeping Beauties at the moment. Found it ok but have seen bad reviews

It goes off a cliff

James Joyce.

That's the winner for me.

I'm a stubborn bugger but Ulysses is literally the only book I have been unable to finish reading.

Absolute bibble.

Plus one for Kerouac. Completely rotten.

D.H. Lawrence is the ultimate for me though. 500 pages of psychobabble, ending with some wrestling in front of the fire. Rubbish.
