The Jam.
Because of Theresa May's sheer incompetence I've had to change my sig.

81 - 88 for me, so loved all of the new wave, synth stuff already mentioned on here, plus a splattering of the Jam, Blue Nile, The The.

The one album I keep coming back to Cult's "Love" Album reminds me of being at Solihull 6th Form circa 85, still sounds as mind blowing today 30+ years later.

Yeah right. Your teenage years were more like the Bing Crosby era.

...Bluewurst and Mr Miyagi...were either of you at the Joy Division Odeon gig, 24/10/79? If so, would love to swap stories.

...yes I was at Buzzcocks gig as they'd been the first real band I'd got into when 14, Another Music... I played to death.

Joy Division were the support and transfixed me from the moment they came on stage..... I was "hooked" from that point onwards.

Looking back I wish I could remember more about it and although I don't really like seeing gigs where mobiles are all you can see filming the band I would loved to have had one for that Joy Division performance.
Oasis, closely followed by The Stereophonics.

My teenage years were from 80-87 so I went through a multitude of music styles but probably between
The Gun Club and The Cramps for me, although they didn't bring that much out during then The Cramps just about win it.

Same here. I go for Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Madness and the Smiths.

Re Gimme Gimme Gimme: that’s right!

The gig you refer to was probably March 1984. They played this cover many times since, but I’m sure the Tin Can was the first time we saw them do it.

The Hepworth quote was insightful.
Agree with all this, Mr Miyagi. Assume like me you stormed past the stewards to get down the front for the Buzzcocks?

No known recording of the JD Odeon performance exists, which is unusual as they were a heavily bootlegged band.

Pity we can’t swap stories over a pint, to avoid boring other readers.

How about the Sisters at the Tin Can Club. Doing ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme".

I still listen to a lot of stuff from when I was 15-19. I think for most people , what they were into then stays with them for life.

A venerable man on here once pointed me to a quote by (I think) David Hepworth - "Music occupies time not space".

Did the powerhouse, and the Tin Can one (which still sits in the top few gigs ever).

The new order one at the Tower will sit up there too
