Morning All,

I was hoping to go to London next week with my other half.

Was hoping to go by rail...£30 Pound return each.

Seems a bit expensive or is this the going rate these days?

Thats average. Is it virgin or chiltern?

£59.00 For two to Euston from New St (I imagine this is Chiltern as is the longer train)

£100.00 to Marylebone - Not sure who runs that train?

Going rate when not very far in advance
Super off peak (decent enough weekend times)
Virgin £35.00 which is 1.25hrs

London midland can be a fair bit cheaper but can take nearly 3hours.

From Moor Street to Marylebone on Chiltern is about £30.00 and takes less than 2 hours.

All are pretty cheap as from London if wanting to head further up the country to Liverpool / Leeds / Manchester standard costs are around £90.00 for the same times.

Long trains from New St to Euston are London Midland [or whatever they're calling themselves].
Quick ones are Virgin.

Anything from Moor St/Snow Hill is Chiltern.

Chiltern services are great for a middle ground. Avoid LM like the plague.

sounds like a good price

Our railways (and roads) are a joke.

£42 each for Tamworth to Euston for the West Ham game.

I can fly to Glasgow from Birmingham for the same price.

Sounds steep but then again I rarely get the train because it's that fecking expensive

I'm pretty sure you used to be able to do Solihull/Birmingham to London for less than £20 return a couple of years ago
...you don't say what day or times you want to travel, but you could do it for £68.00 return (first class) or £24.00 return with London NorthWestern (adverts on t'radio at the moment).

£25 return for me & daughter from Warwick to Marylebone 👍
The First Class cabin on London Northwestern has very little difference to the standard one. Its not worth it.

After my experiences travelling between Devon and Bristol today, I wouldn’t bother using the railways over the next few weeks unless they’re paying you to travel.

And even then I’d think twice.

Shambles.

I always book my train tickets for games as soon as Sky have had their way with the fixtures.

best to try and book at least 2 months in advance

...thanks for the info, £24 it is then (practically 3 trips for the price of 1 uninspiring first class one).
