My old man was born in Balsall Heath in 1954. I was thinking of getting him a book about Brum in that era for a bit of nostalgia.
Any recommendations? Something with photographs would be good showing his old haunts.
Thanks in advance
Great idea, my old man was a young kid back then - interested in this.

My mom was born & lived in Digbeth in the 50’s & early 60’s where the rag market is now and I did the same a couple of years back. There was a stall in the New Library, next to the front desk, which sold old memorabilia and books of Old Birmingham. She loved it especially the photos.
Now not saying you’ll get one there now but I did see a show at the Rep theatre 3 weeks ago and I’m sure I did see the shop in the foyer area of the library still there so it’s worth a try.
Hope this helps.
I noticed quite a few books on Birmingham in the touch wood < Solihull > shopping centre. It was one of those pop up stalls in the middle of the passage way.
I enjoyed the back to back museum in town
Reminded me of my aunts house
