I hope the building was empty, very sad to see

Horrible sight to see, more medieval history gone up in smoke. πŸ˜”πŸ˜”

It is, but these buildings are always susceptible. York for example a few years back.

Horrendous.

If a London equivalent structure went up like that we'd all be gutted.

It is horrendous, you're right. Such a wonderful building - I've got great memories of visiting on my honeymoon and again to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary. I hope that they can save a good part of it.

Strange. I was really shocked to hear this on the radio. These buildings sort of belong to us all.

I hope they can save 'THE BELLS' Esmeralda.

Good read that.

There seemed to be a very good chance that the building would have been in danger of collapse within 10 years, due to decay though (I only read this tonight). In 1984, Mrs Tam and I were there, and I remember taking pics of her standing next to the gargoyles and pretending to do a 'spot the difference' competition. Silly, of course. There were no differences.

In 2009, we did the full tour, although access to the roof was denied then, probably for safety reasons - but what a great experience. It's a terrible thing to have happened - early indications are that it was accidental and, if so, that's something, I guess.

And who would have thought back then Mrs Tam would outlast the gargoyles ?
