Alex Dicken sums it up perfectly...

"By playing Stansfield up top, John 'DvB' Useless can fit another one of his attackers in the three behind the striker - and get the most lethal finisher at the club in more goal scoring positions."

It really is as simple as that.

We both know that striker is not an all encompassing term.

He has, in an interview, explicitly said he prefers to play a bit deeper as a number ten.

"he's explicitly said he doesn't want to play there"

Sorry mate ... he hasn't said that at all ..... saying that he sees himself more as a No10 than a No9 is a million miles from "i don't want to play ther"
Again I’ve got to say it doesn’t matter where he wants to play. He’ll play where he’s picked to play by John 'DvB' Useless, whose job it is to get the best out of the players collectively for the good of the team. What players want is pretty much irrelevant. And if Stansfield plays up front and scores ( like at Preston) he’ll be happy

Yeah, a good manager will sit a player down and explain to a player why he is best served and used by playing in a certain position. Bit of schmooz, blow some smoke up his pipe - and if he still isn't keen - make him play there anyway. I'm with you on this bit.
One example of this not working and looks barmier now than at the time is Jude playing as a lone striker v Cov in the cup replay (Jude clearly was exasperated for most of the game) or left midfield. Having the best kid in the world at 4/8/10 for one season in the Championship and playing him there was barmy

Going off topic slightly but I thought Armstrong from QPR looked good last night. Exactly the kind of striker we need. Quick, direct and very strong.

In all those departments ... yes, absolutely .... but 1 goal in 28 games ?? .... is he another Oli Burke ? .... all the ingredients to make a fantastic cake but can't read the recipe ?

My Shamrock Rovers mate says he’s shit

Yeah, tbh I probably 'over support' Blues players so don't like to see our own slagged off and called 'liability' etc. Stansfield though is the man of the moment, the side should be built (top end anyway) around getting the best out of him, whatever that position may be - it is that simple.

Apparently he asked Clotet if he could play there for his development.

Wasn't it just? Crazy. Of course Stansfield is totally different, more of a tactical shift than asking someone to play out of position. Jude is almost the perfect footballer, but he's not a centre forward as long as his bum faces the ground.

Which again shows Clotet up as a farce. You don’t play people where they want to play. Or let the CEO and his mates join in training 😂

Has he actually explicitly said ‘I don’t want to play striker’?

The blues official announcement says he’s a striker:

As does his interview after the Plymouth game:

Fulham’s page for him says he can play as a striker or a number 10:

If he supposedly doesn’t want to play striker he should probably tell his parent and loan club to not refer to him as one.

And yet Fulham played him on the left wing on his PL debut…
And he played left wing, right wing, 9 and 10 through his youth career.

After seeing the final delivery from both wings in the previous game I’m not in the least bit surprised John 'DvB' Useless put Stansfield out wide, particularly against a side that are known to be direct. That Hogan didn’t hit the back of the net with his 1 on 1 notwithstanding we created chances and QPR defended heroically with Begovic making some excellent saves

Hogan is and has been a passenger for a couple of seasons, However we now finally have options up top and there is simply no way he can start imo. We've had a glimpse of the pace, hunger and movement we've been crying out for (all of which he no longer possess)and as soon as Dembele is fit again he must start with Anderson and Stan and Myoshi as our front four. Hogan offers nothing and I'm not interested in the "oh he's a confidence player", or "oh he works so hard"(no he doesn't). Hogan has had his chance and he's blown it time and time again. Stanstead has shown us the way forward. Give him his head and he'll score 15 to 20 goals
