Yeah the thing that worries me a bit is whether our wingers will get many goals + assists.

No stressing yet. If we had the same intensity we had last 30 mins in the first 60 we would of won by a few.

no stressing yet - but our second half restarts leave a bit to be desired too at the minute

I agree, moving the league one top goal scorer out of position to bring Stanfield in as a 9 does not work. Stansfield will play much better as a 10 or out wide than May. We have seen him do a job in those positions last season.

You do not see top goals scorers in other leagues (Kane and Haaland) being sent out to play wide or as a 10. Alfie's strength is finishing and needs to be a 9.

Never did Salah any harm.
I don't mind Davies trying stuff out now to see what works best.

I wasn't knocking either of them, just the system itself.

For me, you have to keep May doing exactly what he's been doing. Shifting May out to cater for Stansfield seems very wrong.

I think this competition is a great place to be trying things to be honest.

Very true. I wonder if Jay has come in and said his favourite position is 9, so CD is now trying to see if he can make that work or not.

I think Jay said last year he thinks he is a ten doesn’t he.

Alfie has also played on the wings alot since turning pro.

I hope to see it revisited again tbh. I’m looking forward to seeing us start with Dykes, up top with Alfie and Stansfield as the support strikers in a 433 formation.

Paik - Leonard

Stansfield - Thor - Hansson

May

This is what I would do. The way Laird plays on the right, he’s effectively the right winger, so Stansfield exists in that half space to the right of May, where he scored a lot of his goals last season.

May has to play as the striker. The guy has scored 20+ for the last 3 seasons there.
Tell you what that crack is really moreish.

Yes that’s a good lineup but Dykes would’ve made a difference last night and let’s be honest we’re likely to be in a similar situation again anytime soon.

It’s also worth noting Stansfield and May enjoy getting in behind their marker still to see that with Hansson.

There’s no need to panic but we do need a plan b.

May is our most clinical striker at our club, definitely need to play up front. As for the three behind him, I just don't know where to get the best out of Stansfield, in the middle perhaps?

Agree with that. Sadly for Wright he's going to have to make way for Stansfield who played quite a bit for Fulham on the wing. May is already scoring at great pace for us up front so keep him in that position, regardless of Stansfield's fee. We need to avoid the pressure to build the team around Stansfield.

I think he hardly was ever used as a lone striker though, always in a 2 or 3 (or actually deeper some times).

I'm sure Jay has said he prefers to play off someone else leading the line and that is how May has usually played as well.

Exactly this. So many new and good players, not blaming him at all for trying things out.

I think it's pretty obvious CD saw this as a free hit to try something new out.

May will be back at no.9 in the league.

We have an intelligent coach trying to gel a new squad and he knows he will need different combinations and approaches to last the season and unlock teams. Sometimes those approaches won't click. This competition is perfect for seeing what does and doesn't.

I think May will be back at number 9 too.

CD says he sees Stansfield playing off shoulder of defenders. He can do this from inside right or left position. This would give our centre backs another option, looking for his runs with a ball over top. Basically Fulham's goal against us in cup.
