I honestly think a point for losing a game on pens and 2 for winning on pens is superb. And I’d use it in every league game actually

Haven't read the full thread so apologies if this has been mentioned already.

I think the format was touted as being in use for the next world cup only the penalties would take place prior to the kick off to try and ensure teams don't settle for a point/ end up on loads of 3 team groups going down to coin toss to decide who is out.

I hate that idea. Knowing the pen result before the game is going to take shit housing to new levels and also favour the best teams

Super Hans
It is. It’s why you get stats like Rodri being undefeated in his last 2638482 games despite losing the penalty shootout to Madrid last season:

It's also why goalkeepers don't get credited with goals they score in shootouts. They are not part of the match, they are a tie-breaker. As much as tossing a coin would be.

Ridiculous statement. Most of it

I think people are confused about the format in general .Just spoken to pal who said well do them in the return at Bescot " we should be motoring by then ."
We only play 3 games in the group stage Walsall & Fulham U21 at home and Shrewsbury away .The academy teams play all their group games away. The home/away for the league 1/2 clubs is pre drawn.
Probably/might need to win both remaining games to go through to the knockout stages.
It's tinpot but a day out(win) at Wembley will be nice as long as it doesn't hinder our league form .

We could go through on losing 3 penalty shootouts in the group stages and getting just 3 points

Yeah, most of it is ignorance of a new format tbf, as I said, even one of the main presenters on SSN were saying sides were 'through' by winning on pens.

Not quite. Top would have 8 points, we would have 3 points and the other two teams would have 2 points with one of them guaranteed to get at least 4 points.

Correct struggling with mental arithmetic today, so we could with Losing 2 penalty shootouts and winning 1 and go through on goal difference 😂

You need to have a think about that, and get your calculator out. It is a mathematical IMPOSSIBILITY for us go through now on 3 points.Due to Fulham Academy already having 3 points , Walsall having 2 points, and with Walsall /Shrewsbury still to play each other.

I can’t get me ‘ead round this format - i.e. a penalty shoot-out at the end of a drawn game that’s part of a league-type structure - so I left before the end!

I don’t know why the EFL have to mess around with the format- just keep it as it was (and get rid of the bloody U-21 teams!)
"we don't even know why we're here - we're all just wandering around, doing daft things, killing time, until we die; that's why Frisbee's been invented..." (Karl Pilkington 2013)

So you’ve been to a game that we won 2-1 and thought we had drew 1-1 and stayed to the end. And also to a game you thought had ended 1-1, so left with everyone else staying behind to watch us lose a penalty shootout 😂😂😂
