Not a superhero by any means but did anyone see the horrendous Connor McGregor performance in the equally horrendous remake of Road House? The final fight in it was so bad. I think it may become one of those films that is so terrible you have to watch it.

No, funnily enough as an adult I don't watch films for children.

and you also make very grown up comments. I look forward immensely to reaching your level of maturity. Hopefully I will be dead by then.

Your opinion is worth exactly the same as anyone elses.

eff all 😉

On the contrary. Not all opinions are of equal worth, and some are very important indeed.

Not that this formula necessarily applies to cretinous super hero films. My opinion about those is that The American film business is very conservative and one it has a formula that makes money it flogs it to death.

Same as British films then.
Tell you what that crack is really moreish.

I don’t agree actually. For example there are quite a few people on here whose opinion about football I value much more highly than others.

It’s the same with anything, but people seem to think when it comes to art it’s just about ‘taste and opinion’, and x’s opinion is just as valuable as y’s. That’s pretty much nonsense. If it’s possible to be informed enough about football to say why such and such a player or team is ‘better’ than another - not that difficult really is it - then that can be applied to other spheres of activity. I think we tend to confuse that with what people enjoy and of course it’s perfectly natural that people feel a bit miffed when someone else suggests the things they like are not very good.

People pay a lot of money for opinions. We even pay on here 😁

Not in the slightest. The British ‘film industry’ is completely different.

31 Carry On films

25 James Bond films

5 Month Python films

No flogging to death over here 😛
Tell you what that crack is really moreish.

Mmmm. Without looking it up I imagine the last carry on film must be well over 30 years ago and Monty Python similar. James Bond is pretty persistent I grant you but I guess that most resembles the Hollywood stuff. Certainly in terms of whizz bangs. You might have mentioned those tedious Harry Potter films. In any case I think your point just backs up my point.

The ‘British Film Industry’ just doesn’t exist in the same structure, it really isn’t like the major studio system which still prevails in Hollywood which is very cautious. I guess they have to get enough people in to flog them pints of cola and buckets of popcorn.

I don't agree as regards art/entertainment, I do think it's fully in the eye of the beholder. Football is a bit more objective (or should be) but picking one type of film or song over another is pretty much about that person and what they want/get from it. You can have films that win oscars, get fulsome critical praise, are objectively well made...yet still don't float peoples boats. If a film or a song or a painting click with someone, that's fine and just because someone else thinks its rubbish is worthless.

I used to be a proper music fascist but (eventually) realised if people like The Beatles, or Barry Manilow, or Girls Aloud, or One Direction, or Pink Floyd etc etc...good for them. I don't need to tell them that I don't like it. Because my opinion isn't worth anything to them.
