Sishi RunakMy Blue HeavenI completely agree
The old school should be the foundation moving forward of anything we build, they’re the centre of the club and everything else should be built on top of what are ultimately the loyalist fans
My point about the osc is more that they’re so visual and directly associated with the club they need to be mindful of scaring off new support when the club need new fans in a big way with what’s coming
You’re generally correct.
It’s a very fine balance to be struck, won’t always be easy initially.
Think City have generally got it pretty spot on tbf. West Ham I think went a bit boss eyed initially towards attracting every Tom Dick and Harry and alienating a lot of the core base but it seems like things are happier there now. Arsenal is a effing library when you go the Emirates but tbh so was Highbury (went to both).
If you mean Man City you couldn’t be more wrong.

They have to pass on or resell those tickets to keep status, that’s the whole point. If you’re ok with that then fine no problem.
Not had time to see that but will take a look later.
Know quite a few City fans mind and none of them seem upset with the way things are run, includes some older ones who really were there when they were naff.

The season ticket thing has been going on for some time and it is bad, imo. There are a lot of unhappy city fans.

Just wait until the 115 verdicts are in if you want to see unhappy Man City fans.

Fair enough.
United rinse their STHs to death. Some of the things the club forces STHs to pay for to keep their ST is beyond the pale IMO.

Watching Manchester United?
SpikeOn a serious note, football was on it's arse in the eighties.
I'm no sociological / societal expert but it was probably a combination of - yeah, the economic situation - but also the violence which put a lot of people off. Everything just seemed so grim. Unemployment, riots, whatever else. Being at school I had it easy in that sense, I wasn't worrying about having a job and feeding a family and stuff.
When I say that as a football fan you might as well have admitted to being a paedo...I wouldn't be exaggerating much.
A lot of the violence stuff was a bit overblown I always thought, but it became accepted wisdom that football fans were scum and would kill you and take your scalps as souvenirs.
Even though I was only a teenager, I can't ever remember being really scared and thinking "i'm actually effed here..."
I suppose it's just what you get used to, younger kids and older people might have found it far more frightening I'm sure. To me it was just a part of the excitement of going to the match. I was just at "that age" I suppose.
When people look at the Leeds riot and stuff now, they are shocked - I was in that crowd, and others similar - the West Ham one Thongsy mentioned the other day, Chelsea in 1980. There were a couple of right dust ups against West Ham - a massive one by Garrison Lane Park after the 2-2 draw when Kevin Dillon equalised in the last minute.
So yeah, I think the fear of violence was a lot to do with it, I'm not glorifying it - just saying at my stage of life then...it never worried me.
I think a lot of it was just terrible behaviour, not just Leeds and West Ham.
I remember travelling back through Birmingham having played at school on a Saturday and seeing Blues fans pour out of New Street Station on the way back from away games a few times.
There weren't that many, a couple of hundred I think, but they poured out of the station and down the ramp like an invading army.
No one was actually attacked, but the whole thing was incredibly obnoxiously aggressive. It was a mini riot passing through.
I don't recall AVFC fans acting quite like that in town at least.
I do remember it was a lot less problematic if you were part of a crowd than if you were seeing it. It didn't seem quite so obviously aggressive. Though I didn't go on the train to away games back then.
Also in the late 80's early 90's non-football people were definitely surprised if you said you weren't just a football fan, but went to Blues. We gained a bad rep for a few years.
For terrible football and terrible fan behaviour.
I think the reputation lasted longer than the bad behaviour. There were a few years in the 90s after it had mostly calmed down when we were still notorious.
Chasing Spurs fans into a live broadcast on ITV on a Saturday lunchtime we wereen't even playing didn't help with that.
Sishi RunakCharcySishi RunakRab C NesbittIt’s not the first season people have had to collect at the away ground due to issues. And coaches get caught in traffic, trains get delayed etc
The coaches getting stuck in traffic is a point, the coaches have all the tickets on. What if the coaches get stuck in traffic that they miss kick off. Should every other effer be stood outside the ground waiting for no reason?
Wouldn't the tickets travel with the team in this instance?
They travel with the stewards who run the coaches.
Do you think Chris Davies is going to let Jay Stansfield sit outside an away end half an hour before the game doling out tickets?
Yeah.
I was also thinking that some members of the club staff who aren't playing or coaching staff may well travel down on the coach and perhaps could help Jay out.
Made in DaeguGreebo joeApart from completely missing the point and completely wrong, bang on ! 😉
Oh I understand the theme of this thread- my point is that people should stop moaning.
And if people can, in their own mind, justify buying tickets just to add to their away game total, well, so be it.
In fact, what’s just as bad is people buying a ticket, attending the game and then standing in the concourse for most of the game …I saw this at Charlton in October!
I agree that both those cases are reasonably equivalent but the club aren't going to follow each fan into the stands and check they are watching a certain % of the match but for the reason they have stated they have decided to make some checks at the gate prior to k.o.
Are the club really making these new collection arrangements just to counter a 'handful' playing the system? Are the club hoping to only have to have this running for the immediate short term while allocations are on average 40-50% lower than we've become accustomed to receiving? Seems OTT to me. I still don't think they'd go to these lengths if they didn't have something more substantial in mind for the future as regards at least tweaking the system.
It is quite reasonable for people to make the case for a continuation of the current system whether it suits them as an individual or whether it just seems the most straightforward fair way to do things. I think it would also be reasonable if the club had a proper look at the whole system and gave it an overhaul if they felt there was a better way to ensure fairness or a wider spread of Blues fans having access to away tickets and/or generate increased revenue for the club re: away/third shirt merchandise etc... And for those in Platty Plus who have apparently stated they prefer smaller allocations i think there is an issue when we go from mostly small allocations to the occasional very big allocation - the mood in those crowds does differ quite a bit but that's characterised Blues away crowds for many years which is why I thought they were trying to work with provincial supporters groups in various areas of the country to boost sales at e.g. Tuesday nights at Boro/Blackburn
Greebo joeThey have to pass on or resell those tickets to keep status, that’s the whole point. If you’re ok with that then fine no problem.
Yeah, I know it is. And it is annoying. I’m not really okay with it!!
But fans that actually attend the games but watch very little…that pisses me off just as much!
And yes, I acknowledge that’s there’s no way to manage it.

Surely no one bought a ticket and then, if selected, just didn’t bother to go to Sutton at all…that would be disgraceful behaviour!
When I say that as a football fan you might as well have admitted to being a paedo...I wouldn't be exaggerating much.

This is right. I remember a manager asking me to work one Saturday and I said I couldn't because I was going down the Blues. He just looked at me and said "You go to football?!" as if I'd just told him that I was going round robbing old people's houses. Football was a dirty word back then.

Few of us were struggling with 730 coaches hanging from night before.
Had to show I.D to collect in a 10 minute queue, before another 10 minute queue to get in the ground.
Fair few envelopes left when I got mine. Id be surprised if it was only 10% yest / 150 of us that had to collect, seemed alot!
