Do you think the George kicked off about it? Must cost them a fortune in lost sales.

Maybe the club have an agreement to kick them back some cash. The local pubs must have felt the impact of the increased spending at the ground pre game.

The George, Roost, Bainsys and Cricketers were all rammed for weekend games when we used to get sub 20k crowds, with the extra footfall some of those people will want places to go for a drink. The last time we were getting these kinds of crowds regularly, there was Clements, Garrison, Sportsman, Queen Vic, Black Horse and Bordesley Labour Club all open.

Not that it changes your point, but I reckon the Queen Victoria went before our last couple of Prem seasons as we went in there a bit, and then the B9 Supporters lot mostly moved over to the Shannon.

My knowledge of pubs beyond the Tilton is so small. I think I have only ever been in the Roost and the George that side of the ground.

I'm sure I've been into all of them as kid with my brother and his mates, as I lived that side. Just vague memories in the late 80's and early 90's of smoke-filled pubs and mild casual violence. Wonderful.

Fair point, hard to pinpoint but I would guess that Clements, Garrison, Sportsman and the Black Horse all went between 2011-13. Definitely coincided with a drop in crowds. I imagine the days were numbered for some, if not all, but it may have put the final nail in to the coffin sooner.

Sportsman was still there under Rowett.

I remember being in there after the Bournemouth 8-0

Was it? Didnt realise it was still there that late. The last time I recall being in there was about 2012 and there couldn't have been more than about 30 people inside and out, about an hour before kick off.

Yeah we used to go because it was dead and easy to get served. Proper spit and sawdust.

It didn't last too much longer after that. Literally that Christmas I think.

If it was still a pub, it would be near enough perfectly positioned for the Wheels Park!

It shut May 2014 according to Camra website.

Everywhere back through Digbeth is ramming now after the match on Saturdays. Usually go a bit further over to the Anchor or Spotted Dog.

I wonder how much the weather will affect the fan parks. I take it the new one has got controlled entrance & exit because it's going to be proper mobbed when it rains.

They wouldn’t have grounds to object really. Can’t stop a stadium having a “bar”

They’re probably getting more in this season than ever. I doubt those that use the George will go the fan park to be honest. I won’t use it either, that’s cos I hate plastic pints glasses

I can only vouch for Hennessey’s but it’s rammed still and staffed superbly.

Like you, I’ll be staying put as I have no interest in drinking from plastic pint glasses.

I don't think Bainsys has suffered,it's always rammed.

Did the George give 2 fecks about the club when it was on its knees and they had all the custom, 🤔
Swings and roundabouts and all that, although I’m sure it does ok still anyway.
