Genk saying he'll be playing for their youth team Jong Genk for the season, similar to how Donovan's playing for Brentford B team

Well, I'm choosing to believe he's gone there to develop and we'll get a better player back next season, anyone tries to tell me different on here, I'll stick my fingers in my ears and go 'la-La-la-la'.

The new Genkie reacts enthusiastically to his transfer: "I am very happy with this opportunity at Jong Genk. The club is known for developing young talent and I can't wait to further hone my skills here. It is a big step in my career and I will give everything for the team."

What did you expect him to say 'I'm effin gutted bab san, Genk is a shithole, I wanna go home'?

Calm down... just posted that 'cos you said you hope that he's gone there to develop... read what he says.

I forget he's not actually *that* young in football terms. He's 22 next month, and is the second oldest player in their youth team.

Still plenty of development left, but thinking of him as being in the same age group as Stansfield adds a bit of perspective. He's not a kid just out of our academy, he's just very raw for his age, and probably needs to be less raw quite quickly if he's gonna make it at Blues.

I feel for him a bit as he's got loads of talent, but playing 100+ games in Japanese lower leagues doesn't seem to have given him a lot of the off the ball skills we need.

I’m personally not a great fan of the inverted winger style. The reason why good wingers are valued is that they can go both ways usually, but at the least get outside and hit the by line. That’s always been one of the greatest attacking threats in the game.

People like the players because he can take people on and we have few players who can do that (probably Laird is one of the few that can go outside at pace). Flair players are valued because they open up defences. Retaining possession and width is a given (maybe it’s when Yokoyama has decided to take a risk which is the problem) for a winger but if what you do with that is inexorably recycle the ball back and inside it’s bloody tedious to watch.

We’ve been noticeably better with Anderson and one of the things that is noticeable is that Laird is freed up to attack. I’d like to see other wide players doing this.

No mention of an option to buy i'm glad to say. I like Yokoyama he's quick and skillfull and adds that unknown quality to the team. He gets you on you feet when he's on the ball.
The only doubt I have about CD is, there appears to be no room for a Maverick in the squad.
The fact that Jellyfish have survived for over 500 million years without a brain, must give hope to a lot of people

I’m with you on inverted wingers. They can fall into the trap of being predictable. For all his guile, Yoko is predictable. Needs a few more clubs in his golf bag.

Yeah. You can't imagine Davies having a Dugarry or a Frank Worthington in his team. That's my only criticism of him really.

That's pretty much world football now. There are fewer and fewer mercurial players that get away with being a "luxury" player.

Working hard in defence, playing to a structure that is more risk averse, and playing controlled football is now the expectation for 1-11.
shit, innit.

Calm down....😂
Up the feckin Blues
Very disappointed with this move. Yokoyama offers pace, skill, flair, likes to take players on, something our team lacks. Get fans off their seats. Feel he should have been used more & has been treated harshly.

He only managed 163 minutes of league football this season. Obviously Davies doesn't fancy him. I hope it works out for him in Belgium.
