WaggehI think Davies and the club probably see Dowell as the Yokoyama replacement.
I'd rather we went for a proper put and winger too, just for something different. But I also trust the club knows better than me.
Yeah that was my thinking. Davies essentially wants three number 10s behind the striker rather than a number 10 and two tricky wingers. He called Yokoyama a "one-on-one specialist" and I don't think he has much use for one of them with how he wants us to play.
IanTIt's more evidence that you play as CD wants you to, or else you're out.
He was never able to trust Yokoyama, and he obviously wasn't able to learn.
Ultimately for the best to have it that way but is a shame. Thought we’d unearthed a proper gem after his debut.
DugarryGOATWonder if we could get miyoshi back on loan.
Why the hell would anyone want that?
Bit gutted about this as I love this type of player but full trust in Davies.
His contributions in cup competitions have been very good, he is very raw but technically sound and has lot's of pace. I imagine his lack of English has hampered his ability to fully grasp the tactical side of our game which is a big problem considering our manager is a bit of a perfectionist.
Could be a case of him not adapting as quickly as they'd have liked and cutting our losses now - especially as we'll strengthen further in the summer limiting his chances even more.
FinchyBit gutted about this as I love this type of player but full trust in Davies.
seems like a terrible time to do it as well - we're about to play twice a week until May and surely need bodies.
Big fan of Yokoyama and offers something that nobody else in the squad has. Perhaps that's the problem. We don't want players who can do something a bit different.
I get it, but it's a damn shame. He's really fun to watch and against some of these set defences offers the ability to ghost past a player.
Won't make a difference on promotion this year I suppose, and maybe they don't think he'll ever be a Championship/PL level player.
My Blue HeavenMiles too lightweight for want Davies wants
The Lincoln game showed us quite a lot, started very well then became incredibly one dimensional and like a toddler with a balloon
Shame as we’d all love a flying winger
Agree. I think people are over-egging him because he has a bit of speed in a team that is very one-paced
saw this with Romelle Donovan
similar players although Yokoyama has shown a lot more
Yeah he’s hardly played and we’re top of the league and clear. He’s not needed.
I wouldn't say "we don't want players who can do something a bit different" - it's more "we don't want players who are unable to do what Davies wants them to do."
Davies wants players who are aggressive and urgent without the ball but are calm and relaxed when in possession. Yoko is the opposite of that....
I really like players like Yokoyama but he doesn't really fit in this side at the moment.
NewbsI think that’s also helped by Yoko having more freedom as he doesn’t really understand the role Davies wants his wingers to play.My Blue HeavenMiles too lightweight for want Davies wants

Yeah, I don't think CD trusts him. Defensively and positionally he had a lot to learn but considering he's played 20 off games before moving here, is a young lad who doesn't speak the language, I think he's done well/ shown promise
The goal against Swindon was a really cool finish. From a player who hasn't been playing much. He looks to me like a player with some very good attributes. In a attacking sense he's better than Hansen and Wright for me.
Not sure about that, not convinced Wright has offered much more than Yoko though.
Fat Buddha OBENot sure about that, not convinced Wright has offered much more than Yoko though.
That's where I'm at as well. Or Hansson, really. I'm sure they probably are better right now, but Yoko feels like he has more chance of being good for us in a few years.
As i've kept telling everyone since November ... we are ineffective with wingers who like to station themselves wide and go past players on the outside .... it fills the space that attacking full backs need, is easy to adjust to, and leaves us vulnerable to counter-attacks. That is why you'll see Wright and Anderson playing deeper, joining central midfield more and becoming floating 10's and tending to attack the penalty box area when receiving the ball. It's been noticeable how Davies has recognised this (as i said back in September that he would) and has slowly been changing our formations.
None of this means that we will play without width - but we need to create the width, and to create the width we need to have the space

Of course i'm right.
.. but i'm not engaging anymore with the negative abusive dialogue towards me.
You only have to look at the plethora of dismay when the team was announced at 2.00pm to see how wrong most posters were and how little they seem to be able to follow the logic of what i posted much earlier in the week.
Everyone wanted wingers, stood out wide, which in the previous games, as you noted, led us to playing it constantly sideways to try and "funnel" it to the wingers - who were trying to go around the outside of the full backs, or lumping long swinging crosses into the box. It gives defenders too much time to adjust and deal with it effectively.
People are confusing "cross" with getting towards the edge of the area and then getting the ball "across".
Previous to yesterday we were crowding our own attacking positions and not leaving any space to get into forward positions at any sort of pace.
It was noticeable that Laird and Wright, and Yokohama all played the wider positions differently yesterday - moving inside a little.
Changing the formation and shape allowed there to be space for us to attack in to, at greater pace.
Same with the "no 10" ... there's no need for someone to play the conventional no.10 the way that people were asking for... much better to have 4 "no 10s" with one midfielder shielding the back 4 (when defending) or the back 3 (when attacking)
Setting the midfield how we did yesterday offered a lot more security if Laird had lost the ball - something the old formation didn't give. It also allows the option to quickly move the ball inside, find space, and hopefully get a return.
If we were to set out as people wanted to it leaves us far too vulnerable if things don't work .... sometimes you have to cover the risk of things going wrong before you can comfortably and effectively take the risk
By not stretching the width in terms of formation we were able to move the ball quicker, more incisively, more effectively - there were more and easier options for progression - and you weren't sitting there already knowing where the next pass was going to go.
It isn't a case (as people are deliberately misinterpreting it) of playing without width ... it's a case of creating available width to use

We're not stretching teams by playing wingers, the opposition have sussed that by keeping the centre of defence compact then they can deal with us as we are playing now.
Plus a dozen other posts saying the same thing
