Did it? I tried that on Youtube at 0.25 speed on the replay (which is slowed down as well) and it didn't look like it. If he did, it must have been a tiny fraction of a second before kicked it... Unbelievably unlucky.
Was the second touch not afterwards? I assumed they meant he kicked it with his right foot, on to the top of his left foot. That’s what typically happens
In all my many years I’d never even given consideration as a rule in football, until I watched that last night
As they say, you learn something new every day
Could be - hadn’t even thought of that to be honest.
It’s always that. Standing foot slips so the ball is kicked against that. Pretty sure that’s what happened
Law used to be the ball wasn't in play unless it moved its own circumference. Middlesbrough won the League Cup in 2004 from a similar pen.
That’s from free kicks etc, that Boro pen/goal should never have stood
PetebaldwinCould be - hadn’t even thought of that to be honest.
Yeah it’s what happened, standing foot slips beyond the ball and the penalty is struck on to the top of the standing foot.
Remember the Stoke chairman moaning about us splashing the cash in league one. What goes around eh.
Working with Derby fans, they can't believe the results last night.
I feel like a veteran of these situations, watching the results come in for shit teams at the end of the season and being exasperated at unlikely away wins etc that you don't feel like you're capable of yourselves.
Glad it's not us for a change.
👍 Makes sense. It's incredibly unlucky but if he kicked it twice, there's nothing you can do.
