Beckham & Gary Neville have bought out the other Man Utd squad members to take control of Salford.

The progress of Wrexham and Birmingham City under their own big-name backers serve as examples of what it is possible to achieve.

“Tom Wagner and Tom Brady have done an incredible job with Birmingham. I went to a game a few months back and the atmosphere in the stadium was one of the best I’ve seen for a long time. That’s what we want to create. We want to create that community, add to the community and fan base we’ve already got — and then lift it.

“When you see what the Toms are doing, there is investment, there is a plan and it would be the dream to talk about the growth of Salford City.

“It’s not only growth on the field, which is what we care most about, but we want success. Because if we’re having success then we’re also having the opportunity to say: ‘Now we we’re going to invest, now we’re going to get a bigger stadium, now we’re going to get a bigger training facility and then it will go on. That is what we’re aiming for.

Stepped away from running it, not owning it - Nicky Butt took over the running but also stepped down last autumn. The main money guy (Peter Lim) relinquished his shares the summer of last year.

Salford just don’t have the potential imo. They’re a non-league club in all but name.

If he loved it so much, why doesn’t Becks jump aboard the Blue Machine?

That Podcast would go down hill in my estimation if he did

He's got the Inter Miami ownership gig too.

I dare say his involvement with Salford is mainly to drive lucrative endorsement deals - but as you say, I think they've reached their ceiling given location & attendances

I think they could have gone up one more division with a bit of luck. But Neville's chaotic "seagull management" hindered rather than helped them. You'll never build anything by throwing everything up in the air every few months.

League One would be their absolute limit I would say.

Absolutely, if you look at three of the managers they've sacked in League Two, two have got teams promoted out the division (Richie Wellens & Graham Alexander) and Gary Bowyer has worked a miracle keeping Burton up.

They’re the epitome of people saying they’ve bought the league and winning a league is easy. Huge budgets every year. But in League 2 they’ve been horrendously bad. Loads of decent managers recruited and sacked. And still down there

Having lived in and around Greater Manchester for 2 decades, I can honestly say I've never met a single Salford supporter, or even seen a shirt. Ever. their existence baffles me.

Its a vanity project. They would have been better off taking over one of the struggling established league sides round there (Rochdale, Oldham, Bury or Stockport(before these owners were there)).

They weren't great but they were a bigger club than Alvechurch and playing at a higher level in 2014 when the "Class of '92" took over.
17:11, Thu 8 May
They were in a higher division in 2014 level 8 compared to Alvechurch level 9 but Alvechurch had a long history it what is now level 7 but was 6 before the creation of national league north and south
18:35, Thu 8 May
Was that history not made by the old Alvechurch, pre 94.

I must admit that I remember them mostly for their achievements in the Amateur Cup back in the 60's.
