I do think there's a real need for some fans to shit on anything that's popular with the mass of Blues fans.

The penguin
The tamperer
Craig Gardner
Gary Rowett
John Eustace
Juke

Etc

This pining for nostalgia makes me wonder if I've strayed across the expressway

Quite the opposite. No one expects Blues to dig up a 1970's penguin strip for the coming season. I think the 70's ones are petty poor but I also think as the core branding it would be a very good move and could be done very well.

I doubt there is much money in turning out the penguin kit every season, it heavily ties the designers hands for generating new kits to sell.
Core branding is great but not if it ends up forcing a rubbish looking kit out and losing revenue.

It will always be the same unfortunatey.
Completely over the top some of it.

Point taken but there's a balance between a tweak-able but consistent theme and being to restrictive. If some one say claret and blue kit we all know which teams are being referred to. West Ham, Burnley and them next door. That doesn't mean they don't change their kits each year. And as I said earlier we have at least 3 kit's every season now. Plenty opportunities to offer choice.

Exactly.
What other kit has been duplicated so much as the penguin?.

About 110 years of plain blue (sometimes with white or black collars/cuffs) - i haven't counted white sashes, shoulders, panels etc...

I think of Scunthorpe... 🤭🤣

One of the kits should be a Small Heath Alliance retro effort for 150 years .

Our first home kit was blue with a yellow sash.

Our first change kit was all white .That would be an away kit nowadays .It's called a change kit(still) because in the early days of the football league teams only changed kits if there was a clash , and it was the HOME team who changed if there was .

Apart from all the other sides that wear it, agreed 😳
No not in blue and white.

Like it or not it’s our most used kit and a massive part of our history.
To me it carries our identity like the stripes of Newcastle or the hoops of Celtic.

It's so most used that it has been our home kit in only 9 of the 150 years of our existence...

Like it or not the penguin shirt is iconic and the only shirt I'd buy. If/when we get in to the premier league it would sell bucket loads as it's instantly recognisable. A fantastic opportunity for Blues to increase the "Brand image" not just here but world wide. Very few of our previous shirts are memorable at all and the ones that are only by us fans. Marketing and Brand is huge now and we should be doing everything possible to solidify it. IMO that's the penguin and the world and ball logo. Both of which are a marketing teams dream.

The penguin kit is shit. Every iteration we've had since I've been alive ahs been shit. It's too white and and always looks naff.

the 2013 diadora nicolites one was dreadful
the F&C one was almost tolerable, but mainly because of who played in it. It still looked shit.
The Pony one was, well, Pony. Probably the best off a bad bunch

I actually think the F&C one was okay (not better than okay mind). It was also the one with the narrowest white section - one improvement would have been blue shorts to reduce the overall whiteness of it.
Not sure I want our future kit identity to be based on a kit that at best looks just okay though.

It’s not so much the look it’s the marketing side that is the thing about getting the penguin back.

Knowing Wagner I reckon he could push for it tbh

Not a fan of the penguin kits either, but it is kind of iconic. People seam to love that god awful "paint splash" kit now, but it was an embarrassment at the time. So much that it didn't even last the season!

I think something could be done with white v markings seen on some of those very old kits, would be a nice throwback for a 150 anniversary kit.

I’d steer. Clear of the penguin, not sure the undefeated logo would fit in with it either.

Just do some retro now and again.
