Still ended up signing BPF mind you

DId enough in the 6 weeks of pre season training and friendlies for them to make him first choice over RA at start of season as well.

They must think he's better than Allsop, just because we don't, it doesn't mean they don't

FWIW the data stuff they are using is far more sophisticated than what we see on these sites, and that's what they'll be basing it on.

Despite that, if we can't make it permanent I don't see the point.

They thought BPF was better than him at the start of last season. That's the biggest mystery of last season, how did BPF get picked ahead of Allsop for those early games? Hopefully Beadle proves me wrong if we get him, and he has a great season. I've got my doubts, but let's see.

Either that, or they're not the best judge of GK's? I'm not saying that's the case, but its just as likely as BPF outperforming Allsop.

I'll trust in the recruitment but I do have reservations over this especially as there's no clause to buy him. Allsop's ability with his feet last season was absolutely vital to our setup, anyone coming in needs to be at that level.
Tell you what that crack is really moreish.

Yeah that's where I am, CD and the recruitment team have done enough to earn my trust. I've got my concerns about this for the same reasons as you. Hopefully our fears are proven unfounded, and he has a great season.

We'd been linked with BPF for years and there's a connection there with Maik Taylor (NI Goalkeeper coach for a time) so I reckon that one wasn't data driven.

i'm not passing judgement on his ability , just seems like a strange choice to get a keeper in if there is no option to buy as either he will be good enough and he moves on , or he isn't , and we are looking again this time next year whatever the outcome .

if he was a known marked improvement over what we have , i could understand it

if we had an option to buy , i could understand it

maybe trying to get an option to buy is what has held up the deal ? , i don't know

He is highly rated and the season prior he was excellent. I think his performances last season were mixed from what I heard.

The biggest question mark for me is that he doesn't appear to be able to play out from the back. It's so crucial to our play.

Doesn't seem to terrible given he was playing in a team that was under pressure more and had less than 50% possesion last season.

BPF was an early signing wasn't he? And started the season ahead of Allsop? The algorithm fecked up

Saw an interview with him where he acknowledged his form wasn’t great and he was working on figuring out why to reduce the risk of a repeat. Good attitude. Still don't want him though.

Yes, I think it was probably a case of needing to try him in games to see that he couldn't do it under pressure - though someone mentioned higher up that he might have been partly signed due to Maik Taylor rather than analysis of him.
13:04, Thu 12 Jun
It's a strange one if no chance of buying him. Don't geddit.

I agree, that's why I'm not sure about it

But I think if it happens, it's because the clubs data suggests he will make us better.

He was fine as a back up for last year - don't think he cost much and as a second choice, he could come in without disrupting the style of play

He wasn’t though. For the sake of argument, if we had a crystal ball, you can’t honestly tell me that you’d be happy if any keeper we have in goal next season makes as many calamitous mistakes as BPF?

Of course we will be going flat out for promotion. Every chance we won’t make it yet, but we aren’t here to make up the numbers.
