He was an academy player that decided he was moving on, not much Blues could have done at the time, especially as we were still pre TW?
fradgeRab C NesbittSnoopWas he really their stand out player?tiltonbillyIMO Dortmund have well overpaid .I reckon the Bellingham name has put 10 mill on that figure. Hes OK but he aint THAT good
I don't think it is that far off being reasonable - there is a definite tendency to underestimate a player who has 100+ appearances at 19, and was a standout player in a promoted side.
I also think I don't care beyond what creates the most money for Blues, which is not him going for £10m less.
He was selected as the best young player in the Championship. At 19 that is some going.
I think the figure is about right.
For context, this is a list of the players that have won it over the last 10 years . . . .
2015-24 EFL Young Players of the Season
2015 Dele Alli (MK Dons)
2016 Lewis Cook (Leeds United)
2017 Ollie Watkins (Exeter City)
2018 Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)
2019 Max Aarons (Norwich City)
2020Jude Bellingham (Birmingham City)
2021 Michael OIise (Reading)
2022 Brennan Johnson (Nottingham Forest)
2023 Alex Scott (Bristol City)
2024 Archie Gray (Leeds United)
Cheers, I’m amazed James Trafford didn’t win it tbh.
But I can’t wait for next season
Rab C NesbittCheers to both for replying. I didn’t watch them a lot but I wasn’t massively impressed when watching him.
But it does suggest the Championship isn’t as strong as we usually think
I think there is some of that to it as well - always worth looking at who was up there last season, after struggling with us the year before. Sunderland and Blackburn weren't far off us in 23-24, one made the play offs and up, the other just missed out. A good manager and a couple of good signings can turn a struggling side into a top 6 side.

Scott went for £25m, Gray for £40m.
And Wharton for £18m in Feb '24, with 18 months left on his contract.
Suggests Bellingham for £20something plus add ons isn't bad value.
The Championship is currently the most competitive division we have. You can go down with plus 50 points yet also be around the play offs with not much more. There isn't really a mid table anymore, you're either worried about relegation or looking at top 6.
Can't wait.
Yeah I think it's fair value, I would be surprised if they don't turn a profit on him

Yes, if he is any good he will probably move to Real, Man City, Liverpool or Chelsea for £50m+ in a couple of seasons. If he isn't that good, he will probably go to Man Utd for £60m+.

😁
We know the championship isn't strong. You have the parachute bastards and the odd outlier, mostly it’s shit.
Shhh, he doesn’t want to be referenced to his family and brother. Walking his own path.
He’ll be signing for Dortmund next.
I'm not sure it's 'shit'.
It's very very competitive, and there's a lot of real talent on show.
I hope Jobe goes on to bigger and better things. He's a good lad.
My language was harsh but I think what I said is true enough. Sunderland didn't look particularly good at any point last season but remained near the top throughout. And were outplayed but not outscored in the play offs. Twice. Blackburn, prosaic at best and finished a gnats cock from play offs. Same for Millwall.
The division is competitive because most of the teams are mediocre. And there is rarely much competition for the top two spots.
And the teams that runaway with the championship generally go on to perform poorly in the higher league.
It will be the money bags teams at the top again next season and every season with the likes of Stoke and Millwall arsing around on the periphery.
