As part of their clear out Man Utd are letting six of their Academy players go .. so they'll cost nowt ... surely if we sign all six, one of them, at some point will earn us more than the six will have cost us altogether.

Could be a welcome boost for our Academy team where the level is generally, obviously, a lot lower than the Utd Academy

Not a bad shout at all that.

Depends if they are rubbish really.

Well obviously, but has to be worthwhile getting all 6 down to our place to have a look at them. It's unrealistic to think that any are going to be potential worldbeaters at this stage - but just because they aren't heading for first team fame at Man Utd doesn't mean they can't do a job for us ... and i bet some of them are above the standard we already have.

I've looked up the six players:

Tom Wooster - goalkeeper, aged 20. Spent last season on loan at Farsley Celtic, playing 8 times.
James Nolan - right-back, aged 19. Made 30 appearances on loan at Inverness, scoring once.
Tom Myles - goalkeeper, aged 19. Made one appearance in the Staffordshire Senior Cup for Leek Town, conceding twice.
Sam Murray - left-back, aged 20. Played 12 u21 games last season.
Jack Kingdon - centre-back, aged 19. Played 16 times in the National League on loan at Rochdale.
Hubert Graczyk - goalkeeper, aged 22. Signed from Arsenal at the start of the season, played three games for the u21s and conceded 11 goals.

Personally I'd steer clear of the keepers but I'd certainly not be opposed to bringing in the three outfield players, particularly Nolan and Kingdon as they look like they could do a job for teams in League Two on loan.

That Jack Kingdon sounds interesting ... 19, 6ft, managed 16 appearances at Rochdale between January and May in a tough league and Rochdale finished 4th

"The centre-back, who will turn 20 in November, was a regular fixture for the club's Under-18s and Under-21s during his time at Old Trafford."

"Kingdon, who played a key role in United's Under-18s winning an impressive treble in 2023/24, earned the opportunity to sample his first taste of senior football in the second half of this season after joining non-league side Rochdale on loan in January."

have we got a centre-half of that calibre in our Academy ?

Thanks for looking them up - i never realised so many of them were goalkeepers

Tommy Fogarty is 20 and played 18 times on loan for Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship. Also a NI under 21 international.

What we’re desperate for is left sided centre halves and left backs. We moved on Stoyan Pergelov who was the only true left back in the 21s and we don’t have anyone to replace him.

Not a United youngster but Donnell McNeilly (Chelsea) is set to leave. Has a good record at U21 and whilst I know Dixon didn't work out, this might be a fair shout.

James Nolan was pretty well regarded at Inverness. Randomly, I was chatting to their striker/assistant manager at our kids' sports day and he liked him, said he'd been pretty consistent for a young lad and they were happy with him. Pretty sure he played mostly at LB to be honest.

I imagine though if United thought there was a chance of any of them making it though they would have hung on to them for PSR profit if they could loan and sell them, every little helps and all that

Looking at a few random Inverness results last season, it does look like he mostly played at LB.

I'll email CG to let him know.
