Was inevitable sadly; Brexit killed its USP of all the foreign beers in bottles and Covid killed its passing trade.
Think we’ll see more go to the wall this summer too; it’s rough out there
The Anchor
Post Office Vaults
Gunmakers
Hockley Social all pretty much within a week.
I am told more very shortly too.
Yeah saw this rumoured and was gonna check today. Shame really I even liked it as The Royal Mail back in the 1990's before it had
the extensive range of ales
On a more positive note CO2 cylinders were spotted being brought back into the Old Fox on Hurst Street (I wish they'd drop the Sly bit) so that I reckon will be re-opening in some guise I'd expect)
Gunmakers arms? That's a shame, underrated pub

Sorry to hear that - really liked it but to be honest never went there
very often, always seemed a pain to get there.
Only the Bull left over that way now.
My boy was working there behind the bar, it had a few regulars and many people calling in to buy stamps
A first class stamp was always available. Some of my lot went off the place since just after covid but it's a crying shame it's gone one of those quirky pubs Brum had that might at least sway someone from visiting somewhere like Manchester for the umpteenth time and give Brum a go instead. Lose too many of those and I'm afraid it's curtains for the city. Talk about lynchpin of course something else will open up soonish but who's gonna take the risk these days? That pub on Gas street that used to be Pierre something is meant to have re-opened today by Joule's they're just testing the waters so to speak before they plough any funds in for re-furbing the joint and I don't blame them tbqh. Anyone over that way able to confirm if it is indeed open next to canalside cafe?
It's staggering the number of people surprised when venues go and then say, "I actually haven't been there for ages". Why do you think places close?
The Anchor is in a shit location at the moment and was waiting for development, they gambled and lost. Their offering is something you can get in loads of other places.
POV is a dark place off the beaten track with no outdoor space (which people crave more and more since Covid), which has a niche offering and one that can be replicated easily these days and often better.
HSC - great lads and great offering but suburbs are where these types of place are better, who wants to travel to the arse end of Hockley when there's better on their doorstep?
Concepts and wants change, there are plenty of places thriving, it's a natural churn in some cases as demands and customers change.
One day these places will be back again (bar HSC which will find plenty of new homes over the years).
Obviously there are huge challenges to the industry but the main thing is if you haven't got the offering and location that people want then you're effed. There's a lot of operators about to go bust as they are poor operators.

I agree the POV was a dark place but it had an entrance on New Street, hardly off the beaten track.

With the economic climate as it is, people are either picking and choosing or outright stopping spending instead of going out and dropping £100+ on a meal/night out. Going to get worse for the city centre I would think.
