But where do you play him if we sign another number 9.
Especially as this number 9 is going to play the full 90 minutes in every single game we play this season.
We forget a lot that he’s just a kid learning the game
The way he runs after players reminds me of vardy- he himself took years at the lower level to work out that position
The kid will be fine
number8Never got the Wood criticism. Baldy Rowett the instigator I think. Sure he’s back on here nowAll this Jay stuff just reminds me of the Chris Wood saga - "what does the bloke add other than scoring goals?" 🤦♂️
People over think this stuff to try and sound knowledgeable.
My Blue HeavenI can’t believe how so many don’t see it
He’s scored goals for us at championship level in a terrible relegated side with adding more creativity he’s going to outscore that season at least
People are weird
We could happily and easily play him in any position across the front four in Eustaceball and be happy with his effectiveness that’s why he had all but seen up player of the season by the time Eustace was sacked.
I’m asking what I believe to be a fair question where is he effective in Daviesball.
You compared him to Vardy… When he was Jay’s age, he was in non-league (and was scoring less than Jay did last year in League 1) and when he joined Leicester (at 25), he only scored 4 goals in the Championship…
Jay isn’t even close to the finished article.
Probably where he got 23 goals from last season.
He was largely effective from a couple of positions which is why he’s a good player
Instead of worrying over stuff that only Davies controls, just enjoy having a £15m quid player in our squad
number8It's a squad game FFS.
It might have been because it was his first season as a number 1 but I got the feeling that Davies got that in terms of morale and unity but didn’t really share that belief otherwise:
Stansfield is/was our marquee signing under this turning of the tide and the direction the club is now heading. As we sign other players does he become last season’s Alfie May?

So you see him as a number 9? My point is I don’t.
Yes as he develops I could be made to look very silly. I remember thinking why on earth Arsene Wenger would sign a failed winger called Thierry Henry who I believed at the time was a poor winger in Italy and couldn’t really play as a number 9.
No, because May has never been signed by a prem club and then sold for £12m. Stansfield is levels above.
He looked pretty effective last season.
He did at times, stepped up on a few occasions and won us gmaes, scored some great goals but he also looked ineffective for periods
I like him, he has quality but it does feel a bit jam tommorow for someone we paid £xx million on
'His best position is as a 2nd striker
Our style doesnt suit him
He'll have more space next season when teams come on to us more
He's best off the left'
If hes our no.9 next season Im doubtful if thats going to be quite good enough to get us where we want to be.... maybe thats harsh and Im being overly negative as hes young and can finish...scores some great poachers goals like against Bradford and Charlton...need more of that please
No one knows. But again I’ll say why even consider that happening after his achievement last night and for the last couple of weeks.
This forum currently has the highest percentage of mentals and joyless people that at any time in my 14 and half years on here, and we should be the most content and optimistic about our future than at any point in that time. Even including the League Cup win.
And I can be mental and joyless. But I can’t compete with levels of others. It’s mad.
He's scored close to 40 goals in 2 seasons, one of which for a relegated team.
He actually played inside right last night as Carsleu acknowledged the change to a 4 3 3.
Sheffield Utd last season had Kieffer Moore, Brewster, Brereton Diaz and Tom Cannon as number 9 options and played one up front.
Yeah I think he is. He gets caught on his heels a bit too much - a pass comes in and rather than anticipating it and making the run, he waits for the pass and is a yard behind where he should be. That’s something that can be learned though. He’s got all the raw attributes.
