Boo42Onel HernandezWas he that bad today?
I thought Keshi had an absolute shocker, but Paik didn't stand out apart from the one obvious mistake.

He's been pretty poor all season for me. Don't think he or Keshi. Are up to the standard of Championship football...sadly. But CD loves Paik never takes him off, Doyle & Leonard played well today and Paik was awful but never subbed..... CD should be questioned over this tbf
lol

Amy, this is tiresome. We’ve won back to back games enjoy it. If you can’t accept that when the previous comment was made Paik had been poor, and he’s been better since (hence why no topic has been made about him) then I don’t know what to say.
I also remember you saying if we played far more attacking with pretty much the exact team we’re playing now (believe it was Kyogo instead of Duksch) we would be left wide open and concede a lot more, yet we’ve kept back to back clean sheets and no one is pulling you up.

Will say the comments on Paik before the last 2 games were pretty valid.
He’s been good - doesn’t change what happened before.
Quite.
It's perfectly OK to criticise a player out if they've played poorly for a few games.
And it's equally ok to say congratulate a player if they've played well for a few games.

3 goals and 2 assists from defensive midfield in a league that a week ago he apparently wasn't up to and Davies was wrong for sticking with him
Paik hasn't been any more poor than the rest of the team when we've had bad games. He's more than cut out for this league
The view was that the player was not up to the standard of the championship. We had countless posts saying the same thing about a lot of the players. Suggests to me some people’s opinions are pretty poor. Lots were saying that (after the consensus had been we’d recruited very well albeit with some flaws) the new players on the whole were duds.
The big question was could CD get the players performing, moving the ball quickly and playing attacking football. I think that’s getting answered, and it looks very encouraging. Another big test against Boro, the away form needs to be a lot better.

Sorry I disagree, he had some really poor games before Portsmouth. Like pointed out above, it was fine to call him out when playing poorly, it’s also fine to say he’s been really good in the last 2 games.
He’s also not a defensive midfielder. His role in the team is to link defence to attack as a deep lying playmaker.
Anyway, this is getting very point scorey and that’s not my intention.
Someone plays well - fine to mention, someone plays poorly - fine to mention. Players often manage to do both in a season.

Completely agree it’s been answered. I think the big issue with Paik previously (and 99% certain I said it in this thread but cba to find it, but also the poster Amy has quoted alludes to it) is that Paik was unsubable which was where alot of the criticism came from. As Amy said, he wasn’t particularly worse than some of the players but he was the only one not being changed, and if we’re taking the benefit of hindsight look at how well Doyle has played since coming in, albeit not for Paik.
Also to correct Amy, he’s not a defensive midfielder, he’s a deep lying playmaker. You can’t change his role when his stats get better to prove an argument.

Oh man you beat me to the DLP comment, now it looks like I’m copying you.
You might even argue that Doyle has looked so good because he's playing alongside Paik and they can cover each other's weaknesses so that they can play to their strengths. I noticed a couple of times tonight Paik putting in the recovery yards to complement Doyle.

Or maybe Doyle is just a good player hence why he has 40 odd premier league appearances..
I predicted earlier on in the season for him to score around 8 or so goals this season.
He's making good on my prediction, superb player.

I think they compliment each other really well.
Paik isn’t at the level to have an Iwata next to him in the Championship and do well. This was evident this season - not a criticism just if you have 2 in the championship they need to be runners who aren’t far from eachother due to the higher intensity in midfield compared to League One.
With Paik doing more further forward and Iwata sitting a bit more it meant if we lost the ball they were very stretched.
With Paik and Doyle. They are both a bit more forward thinking which means they are often not far from eachother - hence being able to recover for eachother more - not far away.

A deep lying playmaker is generally seen as a subset of defensive midfielder.

Weird response. Obviously Doyle is very good – the point is that this partnership with a more aggressive style looks like it is bringing the best out of them both.
