TandyDavid XavisPaik has struggled this season, not sure if it’s the system stifling him or he just isn’t as good as we thought. I’d play Doyle and Iwata next week.
I've never thought Paik was as good as others do.
Amazing how many people here are saying this like this and “I’ve always said…” now when nobody made a single comment like this last season.
My first post on here was in April after the Cup Final where I said our squad was miles away from the championship with our defence and midfield being untested, including that specifically Paik wasn’t very good in the championship last time. I also pointed out that Davies’ system was way too naive for the championship.
I got absolute pelters for it but yeah I can safely say I am not one of those people.
As much as League One was fun there was some pretty obvious issues we had but were able to scrape by due to having great quality for that level.
Things like chance creation, keeping ball for the sake of it and deciding to deploy one fullback as a secondary winger on one side were always going to be issues at a higher level.
Edit - Think it has gone over 6 months but will link in case someone can open it.

KESBluestainesDocky91KESDocky91KESDocky91KESDocky91KESI dunno, always thought he’s looked head and shoulders even in the championship last time.
I don’t think he or iwata are the problem tbh. It’s the recruitment around them.
I think we had a solid base to bring younger players around like on the wings and at full back and up front.
Klarer and Neuman, Paik and Iwata with more youthful options could have worked.
Now they are lumbered with older players who are either past it or close to passing it and it all feels a bit like a wasted chance to develop something
So premier league winner Demarai Gray who is in the prime of his career or Patrick Roberts who played 45 games in promotion winning Sunderland’s team, or Jay Stansfield who just gone and won the under 21 European championship arent good enough for Paik and Iwata and that’s the problem. Got it.
Yes. They are. Just because they are names doesn’t mean they will automatically work out.
Gray is inconsistent and we’ve signed Roberts about 5 years too late.
It’s all a bit hap hazard. There philosophy this season was tried and tested. If it doesn’t work, it’s not just down to the two centre midfielders
He played 75 mins a game for a championship promotion winning team last season and you’re saying we signed him 5 years too late? How does that work.
Wingers are often inconsistent but when he’s been fit Gray has been one of our better players consistently this season looking a step above
So they are meant to be inconsistent. Ok. Bail them out but the centre midfielders are the problem.
IMO we should have signed younger players with a higher long term ceiling to complement the current squad.
No im saying it tends to happen hence why most teams have 4/5 of them that are constantly getting minutes.
Even so your argument doesn’t hold water as Dimmi and Roberts have been far better than Paik this season.
Your recruitment strategy is also highly contradicted as we went and got a player 4 years younger than Paik who has looked like our MOM when he’s played centre mid, whilst Paik has looked generously and your saying he shouldn’t start over him.
I think our summer recruitment largely has been led by Davies philosophy (who he himself said was largely involved) because I don’t think he trusts young players and doesn’t play them anyways. Leonard being the prime example of this last season.
Comparing players in different positions, silly.
Who has looked like the mom? Doyle or Leonard. Neither have looked a cut above to me. Isn’t it 10 million to sign Doyle next season? How much was Paik? Free transfer wasn’t it.
I’m talking about the lack of clarity on a successful 4 in front of Paik and Iwata. That’s Davies biggest challenge and he’s yet to find a solution.
For me, it should be flat 433 with one of Doyle and Kanya alongside Paik and Iwata. Then he needs to figure out the front three.
It’s all a bit of a mess.
Doyle was clear MOM vs Sheffield Wednesday, you don’t think so? Look if you don’t think Doyle and and Leonard have looked better, albeit in limited opportunities, than Iwata and Paik this year or at the very least thing it’s worth trying. We will agree to disagree because there’s no point carrying on.
Beadle
Sampsted. Klarer. Neumann. Cochrane
Leonard Doyle
Roberts Stansfield. Gray
Kyogo
(Typing on my phone so might not be formatted properly) is the only way for me to go next Saturday (providing gray is fully fit) also swap Stansfield and Kyogo around during the game but it’s actually more of them both almost being up top as a centre mid pushes forward when we’re in possession and play a lot faster getting the ball out asap or running ahead asap.
That's the team I would pick atm.
Yeah that team won’t get stretched.
Mental some of the takes here.
It might. It might not. It might look more like scoring goals than any recent line ups.

Yeah I took a few months break after that first post - it got pretty unpleasant unfortunately.
Annoyingly I found the link for my post but when I try to click it, it says it is not available so there’s no point me linking it.
I get people having passion but I think sometimes pointing out negatives is seen as attacking other fans or the club when in reality both sides of the coin should be acceptable in debates.

Exactly, there also seems to be a lot of name calling of ‘you don’t know football’ ‘your an idiot’ when you go against the grain, ironically by a lot of the more historic posters. I laugh when I see that as I just take it I’ve won the debate.
Saying anything negative and your a ‘bed wetter’ or ‘DVB’ reality is your just trying to fix a problem your club has. Reality is a lot of people are still sucking on Daddy Chris’ Teet and won’t hear a bad word, it’s similar to Knighthead, they’re great owners doing amazing things, their football related performance this far has probably been poor imo. Luckily you don’t get to Wagners success by not being able to learn so I have more confidence in him adapting than I do CD unfortunately.

I honestly think it boils down there’s a lot of passionate fans on here and sometimes having a differing opinion is seen as you like attacking their own passion. It’s hard to explain but hopefully as someone else that has fallen foul of a general consensus before on here, I hope you can understand what I mean.
But it did get to a point where I said to my mates if we hear someone say HughBlue2 to me i’m going to get filled in 😂
Also bang on with the overall Knighthead stuff, i’ve commented on this before and posted a thread of a similar opinion a month or so ago.

Yeah I ageee, I’m passionate myself which is why it gets to me, but it’s frustrating when you try and rationalise your point and get told to ‘go to derby’ (as I did yesterday) or called a villa fan or bedwetter in response. Like if I was a villa fan I wouldn’t care so much about the blues to post about them would I. But it is what it is I’ve found that being more liberal with the ignore button does good for you.
I’ve actually updated Knighthead in the previous to ‘poor’ but as I say I’m so grateful for everything else and have confidence they will improve that It’s ok.
I think anyone who follows the NFL or has seen a lot of Tom Brady speak will know that this is not what he wants from anything he’s involved in and I think he does have Wagners ear.
Rab C NesbittLe ModBeadle slipped or did you mean Neumann?Wasn’t really worse than any of the others, poor on the goal, though also responsible for our best pass and piece of incentive play in the first half (the back flick to put Keshi in)
Twitter is full of extreme opinions with no nuance, I’ve seen people slaughtering Beadle for the goal even though he slipped over.
Beadle, he slipped as Armstrong was approaching goal which meant he couldn’t close the angle as much as he’d like imo.
Yeah I replied to my earlier post after seeing the goal. At the game I only saw Neumann slip in their half which meant he couldn’t get back to tackle. I wasn’t watching Beadle until after he’d got up from his slip. I think he’d have saved it if he hadn’t slipped.
We lost a 0-0 game 1-0. I effin hate those games

I am so relieved to see someone else say this. I have felt this has been glaringly obvious for most of the season.
Our midfield 2 (whoever plays there) end up getting too stretched which is why teams have been carving us open.
It is very obvious that instead of pissing around with a 10 who basically buddies up with a winger that extra body should be in centre mid to give us a midfield 3.
I’m not in the Davies out camp but i’m in the Davies needs to start addressing issues camp.
It is pretty obvious this could solve quite a few issues and make us a more solid team with better shape.

The club / Davies want that 10 role to be a languid, tall, cumbersome second striker for sure. It's why they signed WW last year and Duck this year.
It doesnt work for me tbh. Would prefer us to play a third midfielder tbh.
Big Willy didn’t get off the bench v Ipswich with Stanno and Kyogo upfront so I’m not sure it has to be that tall languid type
BluestainesJohnPI'm sure someone posted numbers for a recent game where a lot of people thought Paik was average and he was actually high up or top in most categories. He is a regular for South Korea in central midfield, he definitely isn't a big problem for Blues.
Which categories? Passing the ball 5 yards sideways?
It was Ryan about the Wrexham game: He made up a quarter of our tackles won, lost possession via dispossession or turnover once (least of any midfielder on the pitch) and was a net positive in his ground duels for a team that won less than half overall.

One of our best perfomances as well without a lump in the 10 role.
