I'm sure someone posted numbers for a recent game where a lot of people thought Paik was average and he was actually high up or top in most categories. He is a regular for South Korea in central midfield, he definitely isn't a big problem for Blues.

Which categories? Passing the ball 5 yards sideways?

It was Ryan about the Wrexham game: He made up a quarter of our tackles won, lost possession via dispossession or turnover once (least of any midfielder on the pitch) and was a net positive in his ground duels for a team that won less than half overall.

Just watch him against ipswich. Imagine thinking this guy is shit.

I think we need a number 10 that is better quality than what we have. They need a decent goal output as well. This sort of high quality player though will cost big money.

Big Willy didn’t get off the bench v Ipswich with Stanno and Kyogo upfront so I’m not sure it has to be that tall languid type

One of our best perfomances as well without a lump in the 10 role.
It definitely was mate
Alive. Early starter. Enricher of lives

Bring back the old MM formation.

Iwata drops to right back out of possession and Doyle shields the back 4.

I don’t understand why we have moved away from this. They have started games against Ipswich, Blackburn, Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday. We’re unbeaten, we should’ve won them all tbf but he moves away from them as a pair time and again. Played 4 W2 D2 L0 with them starting vs Played 8 W2 D1 L5 without them. Our press is better, we play further up the pitch and we cause teams problems when they start together.

Thanks for putting the numbers to something I suspected

I think Paik is the most naturally talented midfielder we’ve had in my lifetime tbh.
I don’t remember him having any stinkers for us. At the moment I think he’s also had as many average games as he has above average.

Iwata has been better moved away from centre mid but he’s had a poor start to the season in midfield. If both these things continue I think we’ll have to start with Leonard and Doyle as the midfield two soon.

I am in shock at this statement. Wouldn’t get near any of our premier league midfields.

Feels like a very over exaggerated statement.

No one has said he’s shit mate. He’s just not an all conquering centre midfielder at this level and being angry about it isn’t going to change that fact.

He’s decent and has good games, he also has clear limits to his game. Acknowledging a balanced view doesn’t make someone a “hater” or anti any player.

Also certainly doesn’t mean you think someone is shit because you see some negatives.

So no one can debate a player both positively and negatively?

I don’t understand the problem.

I’d argue people doing a thread about one of our players walking into any team in the league and some prem clubs would be much more “shit” than healthy debate.

What’s to debate? The Hyperbole when we lose is laughable. We’re ’debating’ about a player that imo looked good enough to play in the championship when we signed him, probably could have left when we got relegated, stayed, was absolutely integral to us getting 111 points last season, and now because we have wobbled due imo to a poor window (not his fault) we’re now dragging players who have done well for us.

When you don’t have a settled team and system it makes everyone else look bad. Have a consistent front 3 or 4 infront of Paik and Iwata and we will start to see better results.

Paik wouldn't get into any of our premier league teams imo, and I'm not sure how much he would have played in the promotion winning teams from this division tbh.
the odds are against us, and the situation is grim

Fair, this is a balanced take.

I just think Paik is fine as a Championship midfielder but he isn’t anything more than that. Some seem to think he is amazing - hence most talented Blues player in someone’s lifetime claim on this thread.

He also was pretty hit and miss in that first half season in the championship. That’s my opinion.

I respect yours and you make some decent comments and points.

I accept we probably just have differing opinions on Paik.

Natural talent and applied talent are two different things. Then you have to be playing in systems that magnify your strengths and minimise your weaknesses.

I imagine we’ve not had too many players at Barca level but they no doubt were missing some applied talent too.
