WelshBlueDon't get the hatred for Wolves. Not exactly glory hunting fans like this in B6 (well,Tamworth). Rough and Ready working class city and people. And I lived there for a while.
Thats left me baffled, the animosity between our clubs is huge.
The 2002 season where they went 10 points clear at Xmas, only for them to capitulate and let Baggies to go up with City, followed by us in the playoffs was one of the best moments i've had a Blues fan.
Yeah eff Wolves, hope the bastards do their specialty double relegation again.
BlueJimWelshBlueAnd I lived there for a while.
You poor bloke.
West of the city isn't bad, gets countrified pretty quickly out to Ironbridge is nice. But Wolves are a proper ground base club. Got no issue with them for the way they support their club, thick, thin and thinner and thicker again now thinner again...

I support the Blues. I like beating the Wolves, but I don't live for it. And I can still respect proper fans supporting their team. Even proper Villa fans, but the bandwagon 'the city is ours' fans from 1981 don't get much love from me.
Nobody lives for it but you already said they hate us, so us disliking them seems fairly reasonable.
It is absolutely an inferiority complex towards the Big City next door, though you donβt get anywhere near the same animosity towards Manchester from those in Greater Manchester, or equivalent cities/towns, they are uniquely embittered in that regard, a proper small town, small mind mentality.
In short, feck em
Historically we never particularly had an issue with Wolves either way. They hated Albion and we hated villa.
It's really stemmed from when Mark McGhee was their manager. He had a complex about us and continually tried to start beef with us - he even tried to get a row going with us when he was Reading manager..
There again, in fairness, I think Mark McGhee hated everyone including himself.
Yeah - Coventry fans also seem to suffer from the same green eyed insignificant town syndrome. Also claiming vilers fear us is wrong as well - they laugh at us, they sneer at us and they look down at us - tbf we've given them plenty of opportunity for both in the last decade plus.
Hopefully that's going to change in the next decade though and maybe they will fear us then and perhaps a very few of the cleverer ones are already beginning to see the writing on the wall now, but not many.

I think for fans of my age, late 30s, this period was quite a defining time as a young Blues fan and a reason why Wolves are second only to villa in my shit list.
I'd definitely have them as our second rivals after villa.
Aside from that, Coventry, Stoke, Albion are a distant join third- just a set of games that are slightly spicier due to geography rather than anything else.

They fear us 'now'. When you 'need' to be the biggest swinging D around, as they do... and you start to realize you can't make the payments... you start looking over your shoulder. They know it's over as the pre-eminent Birmingham area club. Even if they can keep pace with us, it's over in terms of dominance. It's just matter of time.
But then, I don't support Blues to be the biggest swinging D around. If we are, or aren't that's fine by me.

do you not remember mark mcghee, steve bull, kevin muscat etc? have you never been to the custard bowl and had stuff thrown and poured on you from above?

π Whatever they think about us, they certainly can't ignore us - they've proven that down the years, but we're the obsessed ones, apparently. Stupid thing to say anyway - any rivals are always looking to see the other side fail - perfectly natural. Our time is coming.
I'm much older than you H, I can definitely confirm the hatred between Blues and Wolves was alive and well a long time before McGhee reared his ugly fizzog. Pretty sure any other coffin dodger on here will say the same.

I don't pre-date McGhee by a lot but it seemed to me to be a similar dynamic to now - Hate for Villa and Wolves. West Brom were disliked but with a different dynamic because they shared our hate for Villa and Wolves, so it was almost (!) a friendly rivalry with them, or at least lacking the real venom.
