Surprising given how unconvincing many are (though obviously despite the fact mios go in) but stats don’t lie. A good one to miss on Saturday. I’m always surprised penalty takers don’t just blast them high into the corner where a keeper is never going to save them ‘à La’ Shearer. Surely pro footballers should be able to do that with a dead ball from such a close range.
You'd think, and they do all have the quality to do it comfortably, but it's a proper mental battle.
Players generally go low because it rules out one route of missing, which is hitting it over, it takes balls to rule that in by hitting it high, though I agree that if you get it right your odds of scoring are extremely high.
Always remember Maguire's in the Italy final, best penalty I've ever seen.
