Just hope they're not falling back on a single metro extension and fleets of 1875 buses. A comprehensive transport overhaul for the area needs to be undertaken. Otherwise we'll just be moving to a glorified Madjeski or Reebok stadium

hopefully they include a lot of bus lanes, it seems obvious but this is BCC

1875 buses joining the rest of Bham traffic fighting its way into town is a bit naff. Guided dedicated busways round to several pick up points adjacent to the single metro extension might work. One out to Stechford, one across to Sparkhill perhaps. Then there's a bit of a network rather than just a metro extension and the same buses we have now fighting their way into town

Wouldn't be that difficult with proper planning. It appears there will be a station on Midland St with a connection to the stadium. From there 10 to 15 1875 busses on Landor St could take away 1K plus people within minutes. Install dedicated event lights on Lawley Middleway (LM) and entrances on to Garrison Circus to hold traffic and all those busses could be heading up Gt Barr St or back down LM toward Curzon St fairly easily.

Good thinking. Sure there'll need to be shuttle buses but as long as there's several other methods of extracting oneself from the sports quarter site. Walk-cycle-tram-shuttle bus-regular bus services and several different directions for these routes to take from the sports quarter unlike now where unless you walk you're stuck in traffic if you try to escape eastwards from St Andrews. Viable reliable transit connections south and east of the sports quarter should imho be considered not waiting for the currently unreliable 97 or the 8 otherwise you have a massnof people all going westwards into town when a fair proportion of them will be going back on themselves once they make their connection

Sure it's still walkable from town unlike those two but it is a dinghy walk
it

Probably best to travel by canal in a dinghy.

Don’t turn this into another politics thread.

Almost as embarrassed by that as the time I spelt principal incorrectly on a covering letter

That's because they made it up.

Images I've seen of HS2 show a large pedestrian walkway under the line (which is on a viaduct above) which could take people up towards the ground, then crossing over towards Landor Street as HS2 moves north, which would then be a short 5 min up to the SQ.

Sounds promising. It needs to be inviting like the walkway they built from Melbourne's CBD to the MCG 20 years ago that straddles railway tracks. In my 20s and 30s my motto was the grittier the better but as I begin to decay these things feel more important especially for what will be a prestigious site. If they want e.g. 10,000 crowds at women's games and summer events then this type thing will be a must. Enhanced canal towpath walkable approaches should be incorporated too as they have on the approaches to the Etihad from northern quarter. I just hope there are similar smaller scale efforts to spruce up the approaches from the east and south of the SQ and enhance access and egress from multiple directions maybe by restricting traffic but preferably by creating transit/walk/cycle corridors that fan out of the SQ. Maybe the economic multiplier effects will instigate this anyway with new bars and restaurants popping up to the immediate east and south of the SQ site creating the demand for a much nicer feel about each of these area's than exists at present

You can see here the viaduct begins as soon as the covered section of the station ends, if you look at the image or video at 1.42 [www.railadvent.co.uk] you can see the large pedestrian area, possibly even wide enough for vehicles and pedestrians if the zones were seperated off,(the image also shows a tram entering below the station) its a shame the viaduct then moves to the wrong side of Saltley Freightliner Depot leaving it short of the main SQ development.
