I don’t know if this is a hot take or not, but looking at it, could you argue the away results issue is a bit overblown when you consider we’ve only played away at 2 of the entire current bottom half? One of which we won and the other was a pre-unravelling Leicester.

We’ve been to 5 of the top 6 already.

Obviously we don’t want to be losing anywhere, but we’re narrowly losing the hardest games (whatever your opinion on the performances), which isn’t massively unexpected.

Once we start going to places like QPR and Swansea, I wonder if this will start levelling out? Rather than focusing on what we should be doing differently.

Wouldn’t a better reference be how many we’ve played against the top half of the home form table?

It'll be interesting to see how many points are required for the play offs this season, this league is just incredible but also frustrating at the same time. At home, ideally you'd want at least 45-50 points whereas away I feel you'll need 25-30 points but I could be very wrong

Interesting that Bristol City made the play-offs last season with a mere four away wins out of 23. Slightly abnormal amount of draws for them, but if your home form is strong, even just half a dozen wins and a draw here and there can get you in the play-offs.

On average you make the playoffs with 7-8 away wins, it shows how tough away games are really.

We need to win 5 more given our ridiculous home form. That has to be achievable when we still have to play Oxford, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth, Derby, Swansea, Norwich, QPR, Southampton, Sheff Utd and Charlton.

All bottom half teams bar Derby in 11th and they're shit.

If we aim to finish in the top 6 our away form needs to improve, but only a little bit.
We are joint second at home and on course for roughly 50 points.

So we need 25-30 points away from home. We are currently in line to get around 20 points away from home based on getting 8 points so far.

We have played 7 of the top 11 home teams away from home and only 2 of the bottom 12.
Of these Bristol City and stoke would drop into the bottom half if we had beaten them.

So on current form of other teams we have definitely played the harder part of the season so far.

Average points for 6th place is 74, if we continue exactly as we are we’ll achieve 72 points. Need to maintain the home form and pick up our away form slightly. As others have said we do seem to have played the top sides away but conversely we’ve played a few of the lower teams at home which needs to be factored in.

I’d say we’re probably closest to Bristol City last season at the moment, and they got in with 4 away wins all season. Their home form wasn’t as good as ours looks to be though.

I want 2nd place

I fear that shall be Ipswich's, but we may run them close.

So I think the points needed for top 2 will be lower this season which helps a lot.

I just had a look at our XG results for our away games this season and we’ve only ‘lost’ 2 games based on that - Coventry and Preston. Every other game has been either even or Blues having slightly better stats.

So I think our away form being a bit naff is a mixture of being a bit unlucky, not having the same edge and cohesion we have at home, and having played most of the better teams in the division away already.

I actually think we’re in great shape for a top 2 push, especially if we can reinforce in January. Up the boys.

Looking at the home form table only we have again played 7 of the top 12 sides, but only 3 of the top 6 (we are 2nd so therefore 3 out of 5). So a similar picture.

Southampton, QPR and Sheffield United are respectively 15th, 17th and 21st in the home league table so I guess we’ll get a better feel for how much the fixtures have been a factor in our away form by Christmas.
