I feel like that will create a lot of delays, I know they say it'll be quick but I'm not sure I believe them, were gonna have a lot of standing around whilst we wait to decide who's head or bollock the ball deflected off

Also, where do we draw the line? If they're looking at corners because a goal could be scored, why aren't they checking every free kick within 40 yards of goal?

VAR set to be used to check if corners are awarded correctly at the World Cup next year...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c62lgler7rlo

Will it be good use of the technology available or just another unnecessary interference during game?

Need less VAR, not more.

It should only be for clear-and-obvious errors (like if the ref had totally missed Kyprianou's stomp on Paik's knee), instead of trying to work out if the attacker's right kneecap was closer to goal than a defender's left heel etc

Agreed, as already said, where does it end?

Looks like from next season they will be able to use VAR to overturn second yellows in the Prem too.

I have less issue with the second yellow thing as it only happens around 25 times in a league season, which isn't a lot.

Corners though, what we talking, 10-12 a game? I know some of them are obvious but it's overkill

Will they be able to recommend a second yellow where the ref does not award one or purely overturn one that shouldn't be given?

I assume, as its America, all of these additional stoppages will enable additional advert breaks.

That’s a bit of a dated cliche to be fair.

They don’t put ads during halves of football(soccer). I may have become numb to it but I don’t actually find it that bad in their coverage of the other sports anymore either - there’s quite a bit where the coverage is side by side with the ads though so maybe that’s the difference.

Despite all the stick it gets about commercialisation none of the big four US Sports have kit sponsorship with the exception of the league appointed kit manufacturer.

The US really needs to deregulate sports betting.
A sport isn't a proper sport unless it has 90%+ ads from gambling companies in the TV ad breaks.
Most of which should be reminding you about responsible gambling and taking a break, but with the name of the BETTING company advising you to be responsible very prominent, so that when you no longer need a break you know who to spend your £ with.

Ideally you want loads of ads from foreign betting companies who don't even have a legal base in the USA to dominate shirt sponsorship.

I think it is deregulated? Hell of a lot of plugs for DraftKings if not.

The "when the fun stops stop" ads are a way to get around our regulations (they don't count as gambling ads) - so the US needs to add back some.

No, they'll just shave 15 minutes off the half time Pat Benatar set.

That’s interesting, now you point it out, it’s obvious. There’s a huge number of stoppages in the NFL but it’s a stop-start game anyway. The point about football is its flow. Disrupting it makes a much worse spectacle.
