HNY all. No doubt plenty of new books for Crimbo so thought I would start a Thread. What are we reading SHA? Any recommendations?

Currently reading: Republic by Alice Hunt.
Last read: American Prometheus by Kai Bird.

Currently on: Stars Beneath The Sea, by Trevor Norton, about the lunatics who "invented" diving - it's good, rips along, but feels like the author's trying hard to make it funny when really the storire are so nuts, they don't need any help! Good, though. :)

Last finished: Command And Control, by Eric Schlosser, a history of the slightly-less-organised-than-you'd-hope-it-would-be management of America's nuclear arsenal, centered around the 1980 Titan missile explosion in Arkansas. A very good read - not a comedy, but very good. :)
Yes ball games.

Currently reading "The Mailman" by Bentley Littler, just finished "Fever House" by Keith Rosson. Both horror-ish type books. Also listening to "Bee Speaker" by Adrian Tchaikovsky on my runs, the third in a trilogy of sci-fi books, it's bloody boring so i'll be glad when it's done as I've got Bob Mortimer up next

Made a resolution to read through the books I've bought in the past but never finished.

First up is We by Yevgeny Zamyatin

Life is too short for that. My view is if a book bores you, find something else.

My light hearted book is The Long Shoe by Bob Mortimer

Heavy read is Atonement by Ian McEwan. Trying to work my way through the list of 100 books to read before you die, but finding this really hard work.

Damon Minchella's autobiography. So far a well written entertaining read.

Just finished Blinding by Mircea Cărtărescu. Bought it on a recommendation in the Guardian I think and it had rave reviews. My brother-in-law who has also read it, but in Romanian, said it took him ages to get through. It's clearly written by an absolute intellect but its all a bit weird in parts. I think I'm glad I read it though!!
Going mainstream next with the Booker winner Flesh by David Szalay

It didn't bore me when I first started reading it, it's just not easy going reading and I got lazy.

Well let us know how you get on and whether the effort paid off. I have countless books I cannot finish (Haircuts and League Cups excluded lol).

I read some great stuff (in my opinion) in 2025, it felt really good to get stuck into it again.

I'm finishing a collection of Japanese detective short stories set in the 30s at the minute and then forcing myself to read Stolen Focus next, because my smart phone usage is ridiculous.
