Not miserable. It's just another day for me and they know better here than to take the p!ss. The only one who hasn't turned in is the other side of Brum and reliant on public transport, so that's fair enough.

I hope you have your extra big man lunch for being so noble and mighty today!

It’s not the 70s anymore. You can’t bully people into coming into work when they don’t feel it’s safe to n

One thing I do notice is the media become almost hysterical about these events. Imagine if we had typhoons and the like. I guess there’s a lot of empty space to fill in the bit called ‘media’ that didn’t exist to the same extent.
That's the thing, really - this is, in UK terms, a pretty extreme weather event, which makes it newsworthy. If we had forty days like this every year, it wouldn't be news.

And if we had forty days like this you'd hope we'd be like Scandinavia or Canada and have long term plans in place.

it does generally seem like those who moan about the nation being wimps are also those who moan about the state spending money on the off chance we may experience these weather events.

Rugeley: Just got back from attempting to pick the Mrs up from work at Tamworth, got on the A38, closed both ways, police diverted us though the HS2 works, I've had to leave her there for the night, she's a carer, she's safe and warm, I'll figure it out in the morning.

The reason for the post:

Make the arrangements now, Stay in bed tomorrow if you can, don't even try as its a nightmare you don't need, make it a long weekend. stay safe.

Just got her home, roads are ok ish, take care every one ❤️ 💙 x

Tbf all shipping forecast areas were at a 12 yesterday, the highest level. Don't ever remember that happening. Wind speeds of 110mph+ recorded in Cornwall, very much typhoon strength.

That's settled it ... i'm not sailing to work now !!

Wise decision, there could be icebergs

She told my niece not to because it was her day off (they work on a rota basis to cover weekends).

The reason they need to be in is mainly for phone calls - but no, I doubt if they’ll get much business today. Nevertheless, it just shows that youngsters that live nearby are unwilling to walk to work

You can take phone calls remotely - any business that doesn't have the ability to do that is living in the stone age.

I think it's unfair to assume they 'unwilling to walk to work' - maybe they don't think it is safe enough or they don't want to particularly risk their health for the benefit of an employer who likely doesn't give two hoots about them?

or they aren't willing to walk an hour in adverse weather conditions to sit in an empty office with no customers knowing that they're going to have to walk through adverse weather conditions in the dark later today.

To be fair, that's your assumption rather than a statement of fact.

A good protein breakfast and salad for lunch, like nearly every other working day.

Thank you for your consideration though.

Full of people posturing, harking back to a time that never existed, and moaning about the “youth”? Agreed.
