To be announced tomorrow, likely public/private partnership. Wonder which investors we know would be inclined to back that?

I would expect that to be a resurrection of HS2 phase 2.

Good news if so.
the odds are against us, and the situation is grim

Think it’ll be scaled down to some degree but yes good news.

Interesting name they've given to the scheme...

"On Wednesday, the government is expected to confirm proposals for new and improved rail links across the North of England in a scheme known as Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR)."

The whole project in the north has been called the Northern Powerhouse since Osborne was chancellor.

Fair enough - didn't know that. Just saw the article and it immediately jumped out as weird.

The NPR project has been named that for over a decade now.
and it'll probably be another decade at the very least until it's completed, so this Birmingham-Manchester link won't happen till 2040 onwards at best

What Manchester have done for themselves over the last 20 years is incredible really. It should be applauded and become the blueprint for any city in the UK looking at developing itself (hint hint BCC and WMCA).

It’s thirty really, right the way back to the Arndale bomb and the Commonwealth Games. They got loads of grants from the EU for the Games.

They've had great PR too, 'Mannie' is cool, people want to move and work there, we're not helped by so many of our own constantly talking our city down, sitting outside a pub in Benidorm telling everyone what a shithole Birmingham is.

Yeah. They’ve always been good at that. Loads of the Manchester bands and promoters went on to be unofficial ambassadors and Oasis happened.

The problem with Black Sabbath as your legacy is it attracts a lot of smelly types.
