Simon Jordan comes across both in his demeanour and comments as a sexist pr&ck in that clip and far more smug and entitled than Eluko and is pretty reasonable in that segment.

Not read all the thread, but my only gripe sometimes is this:

Women presenters, women journalists, women commentators - yeah, totally on board with it.

However women being allocated as expert pundits for Premier League games I think is actually slightly patronising, and unrealistic. You hire pundits (nearly all ex-pros who have played at the level they are offering analysis on) to do exactly that. Give their insight into a game of which they have experiences the type before.

However, with the best will in the world, how can Kaz Carney, Aluko, Alex Scott et al give me real insight into what it is like to play against Salah, Haaland, Declan Rice or whoever else. They have never done it, never come close to it. So what insight am I gaining from them? It's the same reason why you don't get footballers who never played in the Premier League being pundits for Premier League games (AFAIK). They can't give insight on levels of football they have never played at, can they?

I haven’t either. I understand what you’re saying - but it would have more import if most pundits actually gave you any insight into what is going on and what it takes to play the game at the highest level. They don’t- they describe it and say things like ‘I can’t tell you how hard it is to do that’, in which case why do you have a job as a pundit? It’s why the odd pundit like Neville stands out, he might annoy some people but he gives you some sense of the physicality and awareness needed in defence in particular.

I do think they’re better in other sports , though I used to hate people like Trueman and Botham criticising by saying ‘I don’t know what is going on out there..:’ - same reason. Trevor Brooking when he was a radio pundit sole recipe for a team to get back into a game was ‘to get it out wide and get some crosses in’.

Most pundits are like commentators. They just describe what is happening - though the best also give you a good sense of why and of course having a good broadcasting voice is more important than acknowledged, I reckon. Vicky Sparks is unlistenable. Sue Smith is good in the Sky channels and should do more matches.
Going back to the original thread, if being arrogant and dislikeable was a reason why people don’t get work, how come Simon Jordan and a few others manage to get regular gigs?

To be fair it had a pretty good rep through the 80's and 90's. All seemed to fall of a cliff when the long-serving Headmaster Roger Perks retired in 2002.

I was in year 8 when Perks retired, the fall off was mind blowing.

I gave her benefit of the doubt for a long time.

The messages she sent Paddy Kenny confirmed I was right to be more critical of her.

She said to him something like “there’s probably a reason you don’t get airtime” in a DM. Projection
