I was under the impression from friends that’s sportsmen can break their fast and make up the days.

It’s a really tricky one, there’s a large amount of people that don’t abide any religion so will always be frustrated when religion causes an impact on them, particularly one that’s either misunderstood or disliked by them, that said it was a small pause in the grand scheme of things and the booing is only going to be seen one way.

At the risk of sounding obtuse, why don’t they just tell the goalie to feign injury at the appointed time then everyone can troop over to the bench for a slurp?

I'm sure some of the booing would have been fairly innocent frustration, like Rab suggests.
I also think it's extremely naïve to think that also some of it wasn't rooted in racist chunts. It's all about, all the time and the racists seem to be getting bolder with it, probably encouraged by the rise of Farage's mob.
However, you'd have to go around and ask every boo-ee at the game why they did it and I'm a bit busy today. Plus they'd probably lie anyway.

Would make a bit of sense

I suspect the fa and PL want to raise awareness but I think that’s where they get it wrong, and your suggestion would work

Personally choices to me shouldn’t really impact others but I get that’s possibly controversial

I think some of the frustration came from Leeds being well on top at that point of the game. It’s far more nuanced than people hating Muslims.
And if them playing with no water for 12 hours was a serious health risk, that’s on Man City starting them

I agree with this, also for context I'm not sure that the fans realised what the stoppage was for initially, I was travelling and had the commentary on radio 5, this was the opinion of the commentator.

I also thought elite athletes were allowed to break the fast.

They had an announcement on the screen

Some Leeds fans have said they were booing Pep using the break to coach players taking advantage of the break but it’ll be a whole host of things

Slightly different issue but I find it difficult to see how Iran can play in this summers World Cup in the USA due to the current conflict.

I find it difficult to see how the world cup can go ahead in the US. Every nation should boycott it.

Congratulations, even by your standards this is ridiculous.

There was a message on the screens inside the stadium explaining why there was a break.

Flag shagging, little englanders, who probably think it's a sign that Islam wants to take over the UK. People like this is why we have people like Farage.

I don't think Farage is linked to Leeds but it's an interesting way to throw politics into something that really didn't need it.

I am 95% certain we had "flag shaggers" before Farage, don't think he invented that

So it’s not a serious health risk then 12 minutes in. Or if it is it was for the 12 minutes of the game before that and they shouldn’t have started if playing was a serious health risk as you claim

Struggling to see how a thread bemoaning football fans booing a short stoppage in play to enable a fast to be broken at sunset ISN’T political.

yeah there’s multiple reasons.
One thing not mentioned that I found weird and definitely wouldn’t have joined in was half the ground or more singing “Jimmy Savile’s barmy army”.

I don’t think it is a health thing, it is a timing thing. Fast should be broken at sunset. I don't think anything terrible happens if it is broken a bit later though.
