Which of the players replaced were fine for a team wanting to get top 6 in this league?

None of them would get a sniff at Wrexham, yet Davies is seemingly being judged against them.

How many of the Wrexham players would we want at blues realistically?

Moore, Doyle, Sheaf, Kabore, Windass, O'Brien are all players they signed in the summer who are either better than players we signed in the same position or would have been better than players we had play decent minutes for the first half of the season.

So a bunch of journeymen in their late twenties and early thirties?

At time of signing:

Doyle - 21
Sheaf - 27
O'Brien - 26
Kabore - 24

Yeah proper old all of them.

This is an argument I've never understood tbh.

It would be relevant to a Lincoln or Stockport say, teams that are perenial 3rd or 4th division teams, but we have spent 14 of the last 15 years in this league.

I would argue that as a club we should know this division better than any one.

What about the others on your list?

I mentioned Moore several times and was shouted down by the usual suspects, probably including you tbh.

Windass is 31 and Moore is 32. You just moaned that my picks were old journeymen yet you admit to wanting Moore, one of the 2 old journeymen I listed 🤷‍♂️

And I've been incredibly vocal since the summer about wanting to sign Moore.

You can't tell me that in the summer Blues fans were gutted we'd missed out on Kiefer Moore, Ben Sheaf and Josh Windass when we'd signed Kyogo, Tommy Doyle and Dimmy Gray.

It's not about being gutted, it's whether they'd improve us.

Moore from the start of the season would've transformed us, he is one I'm gutted we didn't sign in the summer. Class at this level.

Windass on a free would've immediately been better than the likes of Keshi, Koumas, Fujimoto.

Sheaf is an upgrade on Iwata, though admittedly centre mid has been quite strong for us.

I'm not going to trawl back to summer recruitment posts, and you're probably an outlier, but when the likes of Moore, McBurnie, Sheaf, Broadhead, Ayling, Windass, and a few others, were mentioned on here, the vast majority weren't interested. The most overused phrase in the summer was possibly "we're aiming higher than that" or "we're after better quality"

Windass is 33 next birthday and Moore is 34 next birthday.

The vast majority on here would have whined if we'd been bringing players like those in, and did indeed whine when they were suggested.

I'd also say neither of them are 'better' than what we currently have.

In fairness we should've been aiming higher than a lof of those listed.

The problem is we eventually signed plenty who were far worse instead.

Some of the players people said “we are aiming higher than that” about was absolutely laughable.

I’m quite happy to consolidate - we’ll be a much stronger squad next season and will be up there I’m sure

Why?

Why wouldn't we? everyone knows KH's ambitions - with or without CD.
We'll improve the squad again in the summer.
I understand some of the knee jerk stuff after last night, but people are losing their heads a bit. This club is only going one way - just because we can't achieve a statistically very difficult double promotion some are squealing like babbies.
Patience has always been a dirty word in football, but that's what's needed. Personally I don't give a feck who is manager next summer, as long as the club makes the right decisions and we continue to improve - which we have been doing, just not enough yet to get where we want to be. We will though, I'm totally confident in that.

We bought a player in of their "type" in Robinson.

Played in a promotion winning side, played 34 games in the Prem, and has never really been taken to by fans.

By all accounts now, we should have signed a few more "Robinsons"

Robinson was a panic signing so literally not even worth comparing to Moore and Windass.

Wrexham also signed lots of experienced younger Championship players.

We once again mostly went down a route of gambles from random leagues because of data rather than proven strategy.

The Championship has a blueprint of getting in experienced players who know what it’s like to get promoted and mixing it with younger players or players from elsewhere but the core needs to be players that have been there and done it.

We keep neglecting this for some daft reason. It’s fine having players adapting to English football/The Championship but that can’t account for most of our squad.

We need to be more smart with transfers and go for a balance instead of putting all of our eggs in the “we think they’ll adapt well to this league” basket.

Roberts, Robinson and Doyle the only players that have been promoted to the prem before in our squad.

That’s 3 out of 18 signings.

Robinson was only ever brought in as a backup. Doyle on loan and not perm, Roberts loan turned perm.

Also if we do get to the playoffs next season it is pretty vital to have players that have been there before.

I agree with most of what you say, but Robinson was exactly the same type of signing that Moore or Windass was, but we can agree to disagree.

If we were to go out this summer, and sign say Viktor Johansson (yes pls), Vipotnik, Imran Louza, Jake Cooper, and Scott Twine (all the type/level player we'd like), we'd probably need to spend the best part of 40-50mil, so they look abroad for cheaper versions.
