Hahaha guess it’s not

If you are going to be a completely tiresome fecker all the time, at least have the good grace to remember what it is you are being tiresome about.
There's a good chap.

...doubt anyone had in-depth knowledge of Klarer, Cochrane, Wagner, Iwata, Ducksch, Neumann, Solis, Paik etc,

Let's be honest there were quite a few who pretended they did on here .

I'm not absolutely wedded to it but I'm Davies IN

Squad was horribly unbalanced until Jan. Since then 18 points from 10 games which is solid, the last two games have been poor but it's hardly a crisis.

A lot depends on how we end the season but we've rolled the dice many times before and it's not worked out, so there are no guarantees. If we finish relatively strongly I'm sticking.

It would be nice to start a season with the same manager and the largely the same squad for the first time in about 15 years.

This is where I'm at. I think they will pull the trigger though.

Me also, not sure they will pull the trigger - if he can put another run together and get us a decent finish then I'm IN. Stability would be good, though of course stability at any cost is daft, he has to show he can improve us and imo that's still do-able.

He needs to be better at the human side of management. And also, sometimes, letting players play. I bet he's great at FIFA.

The best coaches make players feel loved even on a bad day. Klopp was great at that.

I'm not sure he has it in him.

Yeah, I've never felt he would be an 'easy' manager to play for. He comes across as very driven, intense even. Doesn't strike me as an arm around the shoulder sort. I would think he demands excellence ALL the time.

Then again, Cloughie wasn't a very forgiving kind of manager either. Doesn't automatically mean that his sort of manager can't be successful.

Clough had humour & charisma.

CD has a clip board & a whistle.

Pretty hard to know on most of them, given we didn't watch them play for their previous clubs, doubt anyone had in-depth knowledge of Klarer, Cochrane, Wagner, Iwata, Ducksch, Neumann, Solis, Paik etc, some of them have probably kicked on under us, since some of them have been very good.

I think I would ask have any of them looked better the more they have played for us? Let’s discount Duksch when he was shoved up top when it was glaringly obvious he was better off behind the striker.

I think all of the players in Le Mods list have either improved or shown themselves to be good players consistently.

Iwata probably hasn't got the tools to be a centre midfield player in a top 3 team but he is a fantastic squad member.

I think with Paik and Solis fit every game we are near a top 3 team but that obviously isn't a given. Things look good for next season if we get another top midfielder in and keep hold of Osman and Solis.

You maybe right and I hope you are.

I genuinely don’t see enough players in the current squad to be a top 3 club.

For what we have spent, and with their pedigree, a lot of this squad absolutely are good enough.

But there are suspiciously too many players that we've signed who've looked really good for the first few games and then regressed to the mean once they've been exposed to daviesball
the odds are against us, and the situation is grim

Clough was an arrogant dick at times, was also a great manager with it. Back then, I couldn't stand the man, turns out I was wrong though, he clearly had a heart of gold, just didn't like people knowing it.

Clough was a very complex man.

Brilliant football manager, no doubt about it. Plenty of heartwarming anecdotes about him but there were also anecdotes that showed a pretty bad side to him as well (e.g. how he treated Justin Fashanu).

Yes, bit of a Jekyll and Hyde, but what he did for those 2 kids from Sunderland totally changed my opinion of him, marvellous.
As you say, complex, ain't we all?

Yeah. You get very few wholly good or wholly bad people. There's light and dark in us all

In fairness to Clough, I would say that some stories which may seem abhorrent now are actually more indicative of the generation he was from and possibly also his drinking as well towards the end of his career.

Definitely would agree that the drinking was a big thing towards the end. Sad. Probably society's only acceptable addiction.
