Not been in the Welly. Spotted Dog is decent. Holden's Mild is around £3 a pint in there.
The Anchor is worth going to. Good selection and they've spruced it up nicely.
As others have said, City Centre - The Colmore.

Eat Vietnam, Buddha Belly, Greidy's Wings and Strips, Deathrow Pizza (Attic), Chancers or OPM (British Oak).
Attic, Glasshouse, Cloak and Dagger or Cork and Cage for beer (+ Couch, awarded no. 1 cocktail bar in the UK - I think they're current menu is based around 'the pub').
Kings Heath:
Smoke and Ash, Hare and Hounds (the plough created their food menu), Perro, Blow water for food.
Hare and Hounds, Hop & Scotch (CAMRA pub of the year), Houblon, the Juke, Schooners.
