If your dad is in the JQ there is choice for a ' curry'. Try the Viceroy ( my favourite) for a curry or The Hen & Chickens which is a desi grill with beer and ale.

I like the Indian Brewery on Livery street for Beer & Indian Street food .

Or their Tap room around the corner on Mary Ann St where you can try all their beers and Indian pizzas and snacks.

Is the Welly any good these days???

The Welly is still good , still stinks of damp but the beer is good.

The prices went up up after COVID but they have reigned them back nowadays.

The rooftop beer garden is great if the weather is good .

Yeah the Hen and Chickens was always one of my favorites. Used to own a lockup a fewblocks up from there. Funnily enough I saw the Horse in there playing pool one time

Yeah i'm avoiding the city centre at all costs. Staying with my family in Sutton, but wanna get to south of the city centre. My dad lives in the JQ so will be spending some time around there too. In bringing my partner with me so wanna show her some nice places! (And not spoons hahahaha)

Are there any decent places around kings heath these days?

100% you gotta do Attic brewery taproom and Eat Vietnam then, if you’re coming on the train from Sutton/FO/WG on the cross-city line, as Attic is literally 30 secs walk from Bourneville station (and EV 2 mins walk away!!!)

For a wine bar, if you like an atmosphere Vagabonds is good. If you’re with friends and just want to chat amongst yourself whilst enjoying some great wine, it has to be Loki opposite Snow Hill. One of my favourite places.,

One last question, are there any taprooms open at breweries like Fixed Wheel anymore?? I know it's black country but they're banging. Also, best pub to get a pint of Bathams these days??

Hi guys, I'll be back in the UK, and Birmingham for the first time in a few years in May. Ive seen a lot of my old haunts have either shut or are closing down.

Any recommendations for a proper Balti, pint of real ale, craft beer, any decent wine bars, and any restaurants you'd recommend. I'm on a bit of a shoestring considering I earn in pesos these days so I'm not looking for Michelin or fine dining.

I used to like tilt, post office vaults etc

Thanks in advance!

Go to Stirchley, have food at Eat Vietnam (book in advance) and then head to Attic brewery/taproom around the corner for great craft beers. If you've got more than 3-4 hours, there's plenty of other places for drinks in that area (Glasshouse tap room also worth a visit, and other decent bars on the Pershore Rd).

Head to the Merry Maid in Balsall Heath for a cheap and tasty Mixed Grill, something relatively new (popping up everywhere) and a MUST DO whilst back, in a spit n sawdust / community club type environment
Im actually amazed there’s not a Desi pub in Digbeth. Ridiculously popular now in the Black Country. Some ridiculously good options

In/around Brum, your two best options are probably the aforementioned Attic & Glasshouse, for taprooms.

You're only a (110) bus ride away from the Tamworth Tap, which is a must visit pub, and has recently been awarded CAMRA's pub of the year, for the 3rd time [www.bbc.co.uk]

Sorry, don't have a clue for where to get Bathams - probably from one of their 10 or so pubs over in the Bleak Country.

Best go to the Bull &Bladder (Vine) on Brierley Hill on the Delph run or the Lamp Tavern in Netherton/Dudley. You’ve also got Ma Pardoes down the road for some great ales. Fixed Wheel is still going and places like The Swan on Long Lane, Halesowen a BC Ales pub.

If you're in the JQ the Indian Brewery have a taproom in a large old industrial unit that also serves pizzas, whilst next door is St Paul's Market, a 400+ seat foodhall with a good range of food outlets including Thai, Indian and Persian. Both worth a try
