Apologies about another charity running post but I'm running the Brum Half next weekend with friends (who have never run before), rasing money for Acorns (yes Dan i know it's v***a charity 😂 but this is personal)

My really close friends Sam and Jo had a son called Ben, back in 2018 when he was just 5 years ol he was diagnosed with a very rare type of aggressive brain tumour. He underwent chemo during the world cup of that summer and his story caught the interest of Harry Kane and Rio Ferdinand amongst others after a tweet of him ringing the chemo bell in hos england kit with a replica world cup went viral

Kane invited Ben to Wembley where he led the team out with Harry and shared his golden boot moment with him.

Unfortunately that's where the happy part ends.

2 months later Ben's tumour returned and he was taken to Acorns where he died a few weeks later aged 6.

Then in 2020 Jo gave birth to Reuben and life once again seemed good. However once again life was about to be turned upside down.

Reuben was diagnosed with a rare condition that meant he would never walk or talk and he was severely life-limited. Once again Sam and Jo had to turn to Acorns for help. Reuben spent a lot of time there for respite stays, outreach groups, play sessions, sibling groups (for their daughter), or just being at the end of the phone when you need someone to vent to.

Reuben died 3 weeks after his 5th birthday last May and it is in memory of these boys that we are all running. There wont be any PBs, fast times, or anything like that. It's not about that. This is personal and running every step for these 2 boys who will never grow up.

So please please please give any amount you can, i dont care if it's 10p, because (despite being a v***a charity) Acorns do an amazing job for families like Sam and Jo who without them would be left facing life's worst nightmare (twice) alone.

I’m struggling to comprehend what I’ve read there, never mind what they’ve gone through. Fair play for your part in raising a bit of money for a charity that does help a lot. Donated
Alive. Early starter. Enricher of lives

That’s a rough read mate, well done for supporting your friends through their struggles. I’ll chuck in what I can spare on payday.

Such a tough read. Life can be so unfair.
Donated and good luck for the run.

Must be horrendous as a parent to have to suffer this with their children.
My heart goes out to them.

I'd say good luck but you don't need it as running is easy.

Will chuck some cash in at the end of the week once I'm paid.

👍❤️

Sorry I didn’t contribute - but, at the same time as this appeal, some close friends were raising money after their 4 year old son had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
You made one mistake
You got burned at the stake
You're finished, you're foolish, you failed
