Wouldnt suprise me, people have suggested we was after him before. What we need imo in that 10 role

I’d be very surprised if the 10 isn’t Stroeykens from Anderlecht providing he’s fit. Was very close in the summer and very close again in January.

I think if they go for him they’ll be very careful with the medical, I think his injury has scared them off a bit

Yep that was the issue in the winter.

I don’t really understand the clamour for a number 10? On the basis Priske is probably regarded as our number 9 surely whatever you call Stansfield position that would be redundant?

In an ideal world BOS is sold and we get a Wagner mk2. That alongside one really good cb would be an impressive backline with strength in depth.

My views remain on Osman. Adventurous but very patchy in execution. The assumption he will improve in that area just because he is young is a gamble imho. Gray’s form drop off means that left side decision is important.

Agree.

Communication from Wagner and Dale this summer is key imo.

Priske, Solis and Osman are good young players and I enjoy seeing their progression. However, if the board want promotion as soon as they say, and continue with the world class moniker, then these signings fall short as they’re ones for the future.

Players like Vipotnik (23) Sorba Thomas (26) etc are what we should be targeting if immediate promotion is the true objective.

I don’t mind either way, but would like less of the sales pitch next season and more realism if we don’t have the funds. They’ve done a good job thus far.

Sorbs Thomas is way out of reach. Vipotnok will probably end up playing top flight football too this summer

We need to be finding our own Vipotnik and Sorba Thomas’, rather than buying them when their price is at the highest, need to unearth some more gems, like you said I think last year(?) about signing Reyes Cleary. Maybe players like Tolaj and Dom Ballard

Totally agree and yeah I mentioned Cleary. Would have got him for 50k? at a club he scored goals at prolifically in youth football but who were desperate for any money. He’s Fast, powerful , only going to improve etc.
They’re the ones to gamble with and hoped they occasionally turn into £10m players rather than constantly spending millions on players who others found cheaply.
Us having huge revenues shouldn’t mean we spend frivolously

I’m always wary of cherry picking promising players from the division below.

I’d be interested to see how many end up being any better than a mid-level Championship player.

If you look back at last year’s ‘graduates’, Kone, Poku, Kellman, M’Bengue, Barry, Bindon, DKD - for a a variety of reasons most have flopped off a cliff and only really Kone has been alright and he’s not really pulled up many trees.

I’d rather we stuck to looking at players of the Vicente profile, who cost similar dollar and come from a higher level now.

We do but we also need to sign the less glamorous but Championship proven players too.

Cov signing the likes of Grimes, Rudoni, Dasilva all for relatively cheap who were proven too.

Had a cursory glance, if anyone is interested.

Championship players in the last year of their deal: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/endendevertraege/wettbewerb/GB2

Dael Fry and Sam Bell are the only ones I think could be worth a tickle to be honest. And I doubt Boro aren’t tying Fry back down.

Ben Wilmots, Ross Stewart and James Bree… maybe.

Pickings are slim so really you’d be looking at throwing money at players in lesser resourced teams. Like Ohashi at Blackburn (not keen, just an example).

Yep, we haven’t had enough Che Adams’ type of projects over the last few years, obviously easier said than done but I think you should always have a few young project players around the club.

Wages then become an issue though.
I mean what’s Vicente probably earning per week?
As I keep saying transfer fees aren’t the issue, wages are.
Yet for some reason media usually highlight what’s spent on fees.

Referring to them only to make a point. Even if they were available, probably unlikely we could afford them.

If Wagner wants to expedite promotion that’s the calibre of player we need. Facing that reality they might chill out on the world class 2 year promotion sales pitch - would result in a more relaxed SHA next season, lol.

Yep you’re right, Peterborough have been the best at getting players from lower divisions and flipping them for a profit but i’m sure they have had a few who have flopped (Kabongo Tshimanga and Chris Conn Clarke for example). We could do with getting cheaper/free transfers and flipping them for a profit to drive our revenues up though, similar to how Bournemouth and Brighton have done

Might be worth looking at players with a year left on their deal as they would be cheaper than they usually would be you’d imagine?

I think the fact we potentially need so much change again is absolutely damning of our transfer business in the last couple of years and the people involved in the decision making process.
