Sort youselfs out. I live 10 miles from the Airport that serves the 2nd biggest city in the UK. How is it that i can not fly direct to anywhere in the USA. I have to go to London Manchester. Its not lack of demand. Sort it out
The fact that Jellyfish have survived for over 500 million years without a brain, must give hope to a lot of people

You can go from Brum via Dublin and do your customs in Dublin prior to departure, and they go to multiple cities. It’s great and often cheaper.

Doing it in a couple of weeks.

It is lack of demand, and it’s not anything to do with the council.

If there was money to be made an airline would be flying it. Many have tried, all have failed.

Airlines such as United have tried it in the past and there was never enough demand from BHX so they binned it off.

There is nothing the airport can do if the airlines don't want to fly from BHX because they can't make it pay. BHX suffers by being geographically too close to both LHR and MAN as the commuting time to those airports is only 60-90 mins so for most people that isn't an issue.

The fact that the airlines to be based there are easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI shows the sort of business they are after - the only direct flights to the Western hemisphere is TUI to Cancun.

I have no idea what the answer is but would love to know why there is not the demand to fly to USA from Brum compared to Manchester and London.

If it has been tried in the past did it fail because the prices were too high compared to London or just lack of destination choice.
Turn left when you get on a plane.

Swear by this, worth doing rather than direct IMO as it saves so much potential hassle at the other end

Think they were upgrading the lounge at Dublin aswell

Really ill informed post. Nowt to do with the council. There’s an issue with the routes to the US not being profitable due to……lack of demand. United, AA and BA have all tried and it pulled out. New smaller more fuel efficient aircraft may help but even then they need to sell business class seats to make it worth while. BHX would love a transatlantic route but the airlines seemingly don’t.

Economy seats don’t make much money and there isn’t enough business demand at BHX that is separate to people just making the easy trip down the M40 to LHR or transiting via Dublin or AMS.

United to Newark was the route, did it once and the flight was very empty in July. Dont think it had the business demand to support it post covid

Little tip book your flight from BHX to DUB separately, it’ll save lots in tax especially if you want to turn left on the plane!

Nervous about doing that as if its not all on the same ticket if you get a delay BHX to DuB then you're in bother, missed my connection on a previous trip and had to get another flight in the USA to my end destination, dont think Aer Lingus would have rearranged the flights for me if it was seperate tickets

BA did JFK (and LAX for a very short while).
American to Chicago
Continental and later United to Newark
US Airways to Philadelphia

Are the scheduled services we’ve had over the years.

There’s been various charters and holiday flights too but I couldn’t name them all off the top of my head.

I always use Aer Lingus out and tend to fly BA back to Heathrow then on to the states. Do it 3 times a year and haven’t had a problem. Business class from Heathrow is around £2.5k, start the journey in Dublin and it’s £1.4k, a massive difference. Got to add the Bhx to Dublin flight on but after deducting travel and parking costs at Heathrow it’s a better deal. Even consider taking the evening flight the night before to Dublin and stay in the Premier Inn at the airport, it’s all part of the holiday now

As it stands Brum doesn't have a Council. No agreement on a coalition has been reached. Brum is rudderless. Shambles.
