I'll keep saying it - it's as important that whoever gets the DoF role can mesh well with Wagner, Knighthead and the coaching staff etc as their competency is - cos if can't get on with people at Blues they're not going to last long.

Let’s be real here, so many people are naming Ashworth but he’s one of the few who have made headlines but that should raise alarm bells, how many others from the premier league can they name? I think I can name 4 maybe 5 people in similar roles but that’s it and tbh that’s how it should be.

His signings at Brighton show hundreds of millions of profit which basically paid for the Amex being built, and whilst at Newcastle signed Isak Tonali Gordon and Livramento which again have either showed huge profit or would do if sold…….. Sure he’s probably signed duds but even the likes of SAF and Cloughie …… proper football people signed flops as well as Robaldo’s and TFs…….. his record over the course more than stands up …..imo

Think I've pointed out a few times on here (Rab will know, he digests every post!) that he isn't really a signings man, he's a processes guy. Which tbf, would probably be beneficial to us. That's what media reports suggest - I'm not sat next to him to know, of course. Brighton are funny. Every single recruitment analyst who leaves for supposed better things never hits the same heights again, just ask Chelsea who have taken six of seven of them and still not struck gold in the market. They are beneficiaries of a system that heavily relies on Jamestown Analytics. When they don't have access to that, it doesn't go so well. When they do (Hearts, Union SG) it seems to go very well. Go figure.

I'll have to look more into the role at Newcastle to understand the involvement in signings there. Paul Mitchell was (I think off the top of my head) in charge of recruitment whilst Ashworth was, again, the processes guy.

I think people have possibly misinterpreted his expertise (or maybe I have, there is every chance and happy to be corrected) and what he would bring to a role that he will not even be considering taking up, so I can't believe I've allowed myself to get caught up in this tbh. Night!

Seriously? Yes, thank you for your service to the club. Can't say this for certain, obviously, but without CG maybe KH wouldn't have happened? Whatever, the fact he played a big part in it happening is good enough for me.

Reading back over the 'discussions' over what a DOF role is, who is good and who ain't, I'm still none the wiser - I just hope whoever comes in is a true upgrade. This club is going places and any upgrade on anyone at the club is what happens along the way. Exciting times.
