He excels at putting processes and structure in place that seem to work, that makes him world class. He may have fell down at Man U, although with Ratcliffe in charge most struggle. Newcastle, he appoints the right people (Mitchell) to sign the right players, who on the whole have made them a lot of money.

Our disconnect with the Academy issue, again process required to get that resolved and or the right people. This is what he does. Seems Gardner was unable to resolve it along with other issues.

Seriously? Yes, thank you for your service to the club. Can't say this for certain, obviously, but without CG maybe KH wouldn't have happened? Whatever, the fact he played a big part in it happening is good enough for me.

Reading back over the 'discussions' over what a DOF role is, who is good and who ain't, I'm still none the wiser - I just hope whoever comes in is a true upgrade. This club is going places and any upgrade on anyone at the club is what happens along the way. Exciting times.

Also, Mods - please get rid of the DVB 'John'. Every time he posts my PC smells of B.O. old engine oil and piss.

I think there are two key parts to the DoF role, generally, which are strategic direction and co-ordinating. Setting a strategic direction – our general style of play, how we approach transfers, use the academy etc. Then a co-ordinating role, making sure the head coach, head of recruitment, head of academy etc are all working towards those goals, and working well together.
Or, in short telling everyone at the club what we are going to do then making sure they do their bit of it.

I hope in that case that the new DOF can radically change the way the Academy operates and find a way to get lads good enough in and make sure there is a pathway forward for them at the club, as that is possibly a failing of CG? - and I realise that's a bit of a chicken and egg situation, but all the really good sides in the prem who aren't truly big clubs - Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Villa etc have good and productive academies and I think it's crucial Blues can match that.
We can't just be relying on the Powerhouse and SQ for revenue.
