Feels like sentiment is the thing keeping him. Rather than his credentials

I always assumed it was a mixture of a debt of gratitude and the need for some continuity following so much upheaval and transformation with the new owners coming in.

He is/was their trusted man on the football knowledge side. I do think it may be to big a job for him now though, if he is struggling to see his family then it seems that the infrastructure around him to support him is not much kop.

If it's going to happen, surely a new sporting director needs the whole summer.
It wasn’t planned, hence why he’s still working the role I believe.

But he is leaving.

Or it could be other things.
Knighthead want promotion. To achieve that won’t be easy with clubs receiving parachute money. We have nail our transfer activity, improve the academy and pathway from it. Our loan structure out of the club as well as in.
The Director of Football role is vital. We have Gardner doing it. It’s mind blowing to me.
He was part of the squad that won the cup. Got sold. No problem. Was bought back a few years later when he was finished as a player because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Got parachuted into coaching because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Buggered off to Wednesday with Pulis and they got sacked for being shit after a few months (something that doesn’t happen to Pulis until wor Craig was his assistant btw). Came back to Blues as a coach because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. And then became Technical Director because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Now he’s DofFootball because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. He’s brown nosed and said what people want to hear for years. With imo nothing to put on a cv to justify his roles.
Drain the bastard swamp. Nice bloke or not. There’s loads of nice blokes on here but I wouldn’t want them loons running the football side at Blues either

You might be right, if it his job to put the structure in to support him and others and it has not happened, then he is paying the price for that by trying to do it all, hence the impact on family life.

We still do not have U21 manager
Our loans structure seems all over the place
Scouting dept still seems to be lacking
Pathway to the first team is non-existent

These are big tasks and I get that there has been under-invested for years and will probably take many years, however we are 3 years into the KH project and from what some have said on here, on 3 out 4 of those it seem very little progress has been made. If it was to be Speakman I certainly don't think he is a 'yes' man, it would be interesting to see if he and Davies can work together as there might a personality clash or two.

I can't help but think that the delay in appointing an u21 manager is a small indicator that some sort of internal reshuffle/restructure is incoming.
Buy my novel (if you want to of course), The Loneliness That Others Call Freedom by Steven Vaughan. Available in both Kindle and paperback format.

You still seem to be inferring that his family life is being impacted by him not getting enough support.
That maybe not the case. Just saying

Mike Rigg should be contributing to a lot of this in regard to the academy. Getting and maintaining Cat 1 is a big piece of work but aside from that I think we should be seeing more from him.

That's a bit of a shame for Craig really. I've spoke to him a couple of times briefly and nobody believes in The Project more than he does.

But it's also football, there's not much room for sentiment. Onwards and upwards.

Wagner and the board are/were massive fans. It’ll be positioned as a thank you but goodbye, however the reasons won’t be made clear publicly. It’s bordering on personal and I won’t say more than that.

His choice to resign or been sacked?
He sacked blues off put his notice in about 3 weeks ago i heard its was probably simmering in the background for a while and the politics that come with a role like that day to day is a pain in the arse no doubt...hes done well though for a local lad fair play.
